They knew. I’d spent all these years hiding and they’d found me. I wasn’t human and they were going to make me fight to the death for their amusement. But what about Rain? I thought, running through the ship’s interior. I’d always assumed that he was human but one could never be sure. The exit should be somewhere around here. Aha! Here it was, I pulled the door open and slammed straight into a muscular torso.

“Hey there,” greeted the giant guy.

“Let me out!” I pushed his hands off my shoulders and tried to squeeze through the gap between him and the door. His large hand scooped me up and I dangled in the air. I fired a series of rapid kicks in the direction of my captor.  He just extended his arm to hold me further from himself.

“Oh, thanks Little Jo, you caught the tiger," Eugene said strolling towards us. Rain stumbled behind, probably still regaining the feeling in his limbs.

“Are these the new recruits?” he peered at me and I flung a last disheartened kick in his direction. He dodged it easily.

“Yes, you can set her down now”

“Not much to work with,” Jo said with glancing from me to Rain.

I scowled.

“Well we don’t know what their powers are yet,” Eugene responded “I planned on taking them to the lab for testing after they woke up.”

“Lab,” I echoed, my eyes widening.

Eugene noticed my alarmed look and gave me a reassuring smile. “Don’t stress out about it, I’m just going to give you some tests to see what powers are enabled in your DNA.”

I gulped. Being in a street fight was one thing, being in a lab was another. I still remembered my mother’s words.

“Never go to a hospital, never go to a pharmacy, never go to a lab. Science is a dangerous thing, it unveils us, we’re special, we’re different.”

“Mer,” I turned towards Rain who grabbed me in a hug, I stiffened in surprise “don’t worry I’ll get us out of here,” he said in a low voice.

“How will you-” I started to respond but he gave me a silencing look, “Never mind.”

“Come now, let’s go to the lab kiddos,” Eugene started walking down the hall “Little Jo?”

Little Jo, who was roughly the size of an ox, looked towards Eugene “Hmm?”

“Can you do some of the new exercises I taught you in your training room til dinner?”

“Yeah, no problem,” Jo turned away from us and headed in the opposite direction.

“Hurry up,” Eugene called out and I realized that Eugene and Rain were already far ahead. I looked towards the unguarded exit. Should I try? No, I set my resolve, if Rain said to wait then he must have a plan. He may be a foolish womanizing ding head but I could always count on him to be trustworthy. I made my way towards them.
