Peridot let out a sigh as she leaned back against her front door.
It had been a hellish day at school,
More teasing, more hurtful jokes, and not one kind word.
Like always.
Nothing could make this day worse, except for the fact she had No one to talk to about it.
He dad left when she was three, and her mom died 2 years ago.
So at only 13, she was orphaned.
Her mom left her the house and money, and she sells robotics online, but nothing else.
No family, no friends, no parents.
Only thing she really had was her phone and her cat, Jasper.
The fluffy, orange main coon came over to greet the blonde, purring loudly.
Peridot walked into the kitchen, filling the cat's food dish and grabbing a soda from the fridge before sitting on the couch.
The blonde looked over at the calendar on the wall.
"Is it June 25 already? Well, happy fucking birthday to me then." Peridot said to herself, getting up to look in the freezer.
"Ah ha!" She smiled, pulling out a tub of ice cream.
After she got a spoon, she sat back on the couch, eating out of the container, 'Cause who is she gonna share it with?
(Note: her school is weird 'Cause school starts in march and ends in late November, probably because there are a lot of blizzards where she lives, and they get really bad in winter.)*in hell*
Lapis held her breath, nervous.
The 'Guardian Angel Exchange program' was today, about 33 demon's would be picked, and he'll is not so different from Earth.
The demons had families too, and aren't all adults.
There are kids, teens, and young adults.
They stopped ageing at about thirty.
Lapis was 17, and lived with her mother and younger sister.
If you get assigned to a human in the 'GAEP' she would be stuck with them, forever.
She would never see her family again, (unless that human went to hell), because they are to go where ever their human goes.
She also didn't like the possibility of getting put with a pervert or someone older than her, which was much higher possibility then someone younger than her.
Someone knocked on the door, making the bluenett jump.
She opened the door, instantly a letter was shoved in her face.
"Here." The mail person said, leaving after just a moment.
Lapis stared at the letter, it had 'Bad' written all over it, metaphorically.
It was neat and tinted gold, and was addressed to her household, no return address.
"Lapis, what is that?" Her mother asked, walking into the room.
"I don't know." Said girl responded, handing it to her mom.
Her mother, Turqinite, examined it briefly before opening it.
She stared at it, letting out a small gasp, hand trembling slightly.
"They want Aquamarine.." the taller woman cried, looking at lapis.
"What?! For what?" The bluenett asked, growing panicked.
"For the 'GAEP'.." Turqinite said slowly, tears in her eyes.
A little girl came into the room, her small hand gripping onto her mother's dress.
"Mommy, what's wrong?" The girl asked, concerned.
"Nothing sweetie, I'm just tired." Their mom whispered, voice breaking as she picked up the child.
"Lapis, please go talk to the board, try to change their minds, please.." Turqinite muttered, looking sadly at her older daughter.
"I'll try." Lapis nodded, walking out the front door."Please, reconsider!" The Bluenett pleaded, looking up a group of demons.
"No, we can't make exceptions." One of them said, glaring down at her.
"Please, she's only 5! She wouldn't stand a chance down there, she wouldn't understand what is happening!" Lapis begged, throwing her arms down on a table in front of her.
"No-"
"Wait! I-i can take her place!"
After that outburst, there was silence.
"You would take her place?" The tallest one asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Yes.." the young demon replied, wiping tears off her cheek.
"I don't know.." one started, but was interrupted by the only female,
"Oh, just let the poor girl do this. She's making a big sacrifice for her family, let her save her sister."
"Fine."Peridot pulled her knees up to her chest, pulling Jasper into her lap, crying into her fur.
"Sorry, kitty." The blonde muttered sadly, noticing the spots of soaked fur on the cat, but the tabby didn't seem to mind in the slightest and just purred.
"Such a sweet kitty." The nerdy girl smiled, pulling the cat closer.
The sound of breaking glass was heard from the other room.
The blonde shot up from the couch, darting into the kitchen to grab a knife, slowing peeking around the corner into the hallway.
She looked in the guest room, then the bathroom, laundry room, all empty, so the sound came from her room.
Jasper ran past her, entering the unchecked room.
The blonde sprinted after her, skidding to a halt when she saw a hand reach down to the fuzzy creature.
"H-hey! Don't touch her!" Peridot snapped, kicking the door open further, flicking the light switch on, and tightening her grip on the knife.
A girl with blue hair, white irises, and an odd, unmatching outfit stood beside her cat.
She looked like a junior in high school, at the moment in a human form.
"Who the hell are you?" The blonde hissed.
"Sorry, I broke a vase.." the stranger said, looking embarrassed.
"What?" Peridot looked baffled, staring at the uninvited guest.
"I broke a vase. Sorry, I didn't mean to." The Bluenett pursed her lips, running a hand through her blue locks.
"Uh, it's fine, what are you doing in my house?" Peridot frowned, slowly lowering her knife.
"I was sent here."
"By whom?"
"Board of directors."
"Who?"
"Uh, technically, I was sent by hell."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I'm being literal."
"Uh, what?"
"This is gonna take a while to explain, could we talk in the living room?"
"Sure?.."Peridot gasped, squirming in Lapis's grasp.
The bluenett sank her sharp fangs in her neck, almost like a vampire.
Okay, just like a vampire.
The blonde yelped, going limp in the other girl's arms, letting out a soft whine.
Lapis pulled away, still holding the girl in her arms, her wings in a somewhat protective position around the blonde.
"The hell.. are you..?" Peridot groaned painfully, leaning her head back against the taller girl.
"I'm a demon, I'm here to protect you." Lapis smiled, her white eyes looking down at the other girl.
"I thought it was guardian 'angel'" the blonde frowned,
"And if you're here to protect me, you're doing a poor job." She added, gesturing to her aching neck.
"I, uh, I got put in a program that sends a small number of demons to be guardians for humans. And what do you mean a 'poor job'?" The bluenett pouted.
"I have holes in my neck, you vampire wannabe." The smaller girl huffed, glaring at the taller girl.
"Shut up. Anyway, who else lives here? What's your name?" Lapis asked, gently tightening her grip on the blonde, who replied,
"No one, I live alone. I'm 15, and my name is Peridot."
"My name is Lapis. I'm 17, I have a younger sister who is with my mom, back home." The Bluenett said, sounding sorta sad.
"And, why are you here?" Peri frowned, bringing her hand closer to her chest and leaning closer against lapis.
"I was assigned to you. We don't get to pick and choose." The horned girl huffed.
"Jerk." The blonde growled.
"I- I didn't mean it that way. I got lucky, the people are also randomly chosen, so I could've gotten stuck with a serial rapist or a murderer, or something. I was hoping for someone younger than me." The Bluenett blurted.
"That doesn't sound any better." Peridot replied, looking at her cat as it rubbed up against Lapis's feet.
"Shut up. Hey, what kind of creature is that?"
"A cat."
"A what?"
"...."
