I peered into my reflection in the mirror. That wing was an entire millimetre off.
I leaned closer in an attempt to fix it. Ten minutes till my next class. I can do this.
The door slammed open and someone swept in, not being all too respectful of everyone present.
I glimpsed her— no, him— in the mirror. Tall, slim, square glasses. I vaguely recognized him. Where was he from? History?
He was running his hands through his hair with a desperate expression. "Is she here? Have you seen her?" His eyes darted around the room frantically, resting on me at last.
"Who...?" I asked, irritated that he would come in during such a time. The other girls in the bathroom were staring by now.
"Janice. Is she here?" He started pushing open the stall doors, as if that would help.
Another girl spoke up. "There are about a million Janices in this school, bud. You gotta be more specific."
"Janice... Janice Hamilton. Have you seen her?" He raked his fingers through his hair again, pacing. "You don't understand. She could be in danger."
Some of the girls rolled their eyes and walked out. Others went on fixing makeup, brushing hair, etc.
"You guys gotta help me!" He sounded frantic now. He shoved a crumpled piece of paper in my hand, me being the only one still paying attention.

Alex,
I'm sorry.
I'm so, so sorry.

My head snapped back up at him. "You mean..."
"Yes!" He snatched the paper back and started back out the door. I trailed him, not sure if this was a joke.
"Where does she like to go?" I asked. "You know, to think and stuff."
Alex looked back at me. I could see the surprise, then thanks in his dark eyes. "I think I know." He quickened his pace. I followed.
We left the schools building and he got into a car parked near the entrance, gesturing for me to come in the passenger seat. I didn't notice what type or model his car was. I was only thinking about this girl who we were racing to save.
Racing Fate itself.
We pulled in front of a small park, containing only a few swings and a simple play structure. There was a bench in the far corner.
There was a figure lying on the bench.
