Chapter 53

I have been home since I was released from the hospital three weeks ago. I need to get back to work. I am bored sitting her in my house with not very much to do. I have rearranged my closet, cleaned my pantry, and washed all the bed sheets, curtains, cleaned my refrigerator and anything I could find to keep me from losing my mind.

I was walking from my bedroom to the laundry room when I heard the doorbell ring. I was hoping whoever it was would catch on see that I wasn't answering the door and leave, but I guess that was just asking too much. I finally got up off the couch and went to the door and looked through the peephole, it was Kevin.

I tried to stepping back away from the door so he couldn't hear any movement in my house and ended up backing into my floor lamp with then hit the wall. I silently cursed myself and I know he heard the noise because he called my name.

"Nikki?"

"Come open the door I know you are home. We can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way I break the door down."

"I'm not joking you can't keep me away from you because you are carrying my child."

I stood there wondering what I should do, because I don't want to see him and there is no reason he should be at my house. Maybe I should call Vincent or Toni.

I picked up my phone and dialed Vincent's number; he picked up on the first ring.

"Hello"

"Vincent?"

"Nikki is everything alright?"

"Yeah I need you to come to my house, like now."

"What's going on Nikki, are you sick?"

"No, Kevin is at my door, I went to the door to look out of the peephole and he was standing there. I tried to move away from the door quietly, but I bumped into my floor lamp which hit the wall behind it. I don't want to open it, and I'm afraid if I don't answer it he is never going to leave."

"Ok listen, stay where you are and don't go near the door. I am on my way and if he tries to break down your door, call 911. I will be there in 10 min ok baby...don't panic you don't want your blood pressure to go up again. Try to keep calm, and stay away from the door."

"How far does Toni live from you?"

"Just around the corner."

"Call her and tell her to come over, but let her in through the back door. Does she have a key for the fence?"

"Yeah, tell her to use it to get in. I am about five minutes up the street."

"Use the home phone to call her that way I can stay on the cell with you."

"Ok, hold on."

"Hello, Toni?"

"No it's Charles, she's asleep."

"This is Nikki and I need you to wake her up and walk around the corner to my house. Tell her to bring her key to my back fence and come in that way. Tell her please don't let Kevin see her."

"What's going on Nikki?"

"Kevin is at my door banging telling me to open up. I don't want to because he's the one stressing me out and he threatened to break my door in if I didn't open it. Vincent is on his way, but I need someone here with me now."

I feel the tears welling up in my eyes. Why can't he just leave me alone? I don't want to talk to him right now and I thought he would catch the hint if I didn't answer the door. He started banging again...the banging got louder and I was even more terrified that he had broken down my door.
