//Gracie's Point Of View\\

It was 5:30 and my stomach was turning. 30 more minutes until he would pick me up. Only 30 more minutes. I was so excited for our date, but I didn't want to seem too eager or too into him. I had started getting ready almost immediately after getting home from school, I showered, blow dried my hair and curled it so it fell loosely on my shoulders and I did more makeup than usual, I put on concealer, natural brown eyeshadow, mascara, filled in my brows and put on a nude lipgloss that wasn't too sticky, because I hate when my lips are sticky (and I bet Cole would too.) It took me nearly an hour to pick out my outfit, and it ended up being the simplest outfit I owned. I wore my "West Coast" grey crew neck sweatshirt and leggings, because I wanted to be comfortable. I slipped on red fuzzy socks and my navy blue Birkenstocks. Not to brag, but I looked adorable. I spritzed perfume on my neck and wrists, not too over powering, brushed my teeth and was chewing spearmint gum.
"Hey Gracie" my mom's voice rushed into my room as she opened my door.
"Oh, hey mom."
"You look nice, have any plans for tonight?" She asked, and I sat up when I realized I forgot to ask her permission to go out.
"Yeah, actually. My friend...Cole and I are going to the drive in..is...that ok?"
"Of course, just know you can call me if you are uncomfortable." She said staring at the ground. She was super overprotective and expected people to do harm to me, she was a social worker so she was always super cautious when it came to people she didn't know.
"Mom, he's a really nice guy. He won't make me uncomfortable but thank you." I said with a sweet smile that reassured her everything would be fine. But I was panicking myself.
I was getting wrapped in thoughts of what would happen if he tried to kiss me just when my phone buzzed on my nightstand and a text that read:
"Hey, you ready??" It was from Cole.
I responded, quickly not wanting to keep him waiting:
"Just about (-:"
And I set my phone back down, grabbed my small leather backpack that contained my wallet, phone and gum. I headed down stairs and took one last glance in the mirror before sitting down on the stairs and waiting.
Nearly 10 minutes had past and I was considering texting him and asking where he was, but I realized he was probably driving and wouldn't be able to answer me anyway.
Just as I turned on to check how much time had passed, there was a knock on my door.
I opened it up and there he stood, his hair between his fingers as per usual, he was wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans and a denim jacket with a fur lined collar, and damn he looked good. A grin spread across his face when he saw me, and he reached out his hand for me to take. I placed my hand in his and it sent warmth throughout my body. I closed the door behind me and followed him out to my driveway. There was a large, rusty truck parked in my driveway, and as I stared at it I began to chuckle.
"What's so funny?" He said chucking with me.
"You just..don't seem like the type of person to drive a truck.." I said still smiling as I climbed into the passenger seat, closing the door behind me.
"I don't, this is my friends. My car's too small for the drive in, so my friend let me borrow his." It was a smart idea, I saw he had plenty of blankets and pillows I assumed we would be setting up in the tuck bed.
He pulled out of my driveway and onto the main street "big house" he said, looking at the road ahead of him. "Thanks" I replied before a long pause before I asked "where do you live?"
I was curious as to why it took him so long to drive to my house.
"Actually quite close to here, sorry I was a bit late, I had to stop by Adrian's to pick up his truck" he said still staring at the road. "Do you want to play some music?" He asked handing me the AUX cord. "Umm..idk..my music is kinda weird" I said, and I wasn't lying. I knew it wouldn't be his type of music. But for some reason I still took the AUX and began playing my the Neighborhood/ Arctic Monkeys mix.
"What are you talking about?" He said looking over at me with a slight smile.
"These are my two favorite bands" he said, and I immediately felt relieved. My old friends used to call it "emo music" and it made me pretty pissed. We drove the rest of the way there in silence, listening to music. I was staring out of the window by force of habit when he turned to me and asked "we turn down this road right?"
I gave him directions the rest of the way there.
When we pulled up to the box office I pulled out my wallet and handed him $7 for my ticket, but he pushed it back to me and said "2 tickets please" and when he said they were together I thanked him and smiled shyly. I hated when people payed for me, but after all this was a date. We found a spot in the 5th row to park and we started laying the blankets out in the back. This may sound weird, but they smelled really good, and kinda like him.
We laid down and started to watch the sunset as the commercials started to play.
I looked into his dreamy gorgeous green eyes as I listened to him talk about the movies that were playing, he told me how he loved Star Wars and how excited he was for the new one. Although I had no idea what he was talking about I nodded and listened to him speak. The way he spoke was the most amazing thing. He was so articulate and his voice was so mature, I could listen to him speak for hours and hours on end.
The sun had finally set and the movie started playing. We both laid back with our legs under separate blankets.
I kept looking at him and he would look at me and then we turned our eyes back to the movie. This happened and it started to feel awkward, It felt like he didn't like me at all.
