"What the hell is on your palm Derek?" Damon asks me, pointing at the exact same spot that had been burnt in last night's dream when I had met and lost Sienna for the first time. My heart thudded loudly in my chest, practically shattering itself on my ribcage.
If anyone ever sees something unusual on your palm, stay far away from them and beware, I hear Sienna's voice echo in my head. Beware young one or we'll both pay the price.
"What are you talking about Damon?" I ask him heatedly as images of Sienna being lit on fire by the torch loop through my traumatized mind. "My hand hasn't changed overnight and there's nothing there. Normal hands and a normal life," I say scornfully. I made it no mystery that I absolutely loathed the mundane life we lived in our small ghost town of Sheridan Hills. The most interesting thing that happened all year was the changing of seasons... until now.
"Sorry man, I just thought I saw something. I must be hallucinating, sleep deprived teen you know," Damon backs off with a forced smile, still frowning at my palm like it held the secrets to Da Vinci's code. I stare down at my palm as well, irritated when I saw nothing. I knew for a fact that I wasn't blame so either I was crazy or Damon was. If Damon's crazy then what does that make Sienna? The irritating voice of my conscious pipes up, already knowing the answer to that question, Oh right, she's a fictional fantasy and she's dead.
"Hey Damon, what's the hold up?" Gunner shouts from across the room, slowly making his way towards us through the throng of trampy girls that always surrounded him. "Oh I get what Damon's plan is: the three hottest boys of Sheridan Hills are going form a squad now. I guess we'd sort of be like the Cullen brothers from Twilight. I'm a muscular hunk like Emmett, Damon's the brooding bronze haired vamp Edward with the dead girlfriend who's unofficially part of the school's abstinence club by now and Derek's the blonde haired charmer constantly in emotional pain because he's secretly an adrenaline junkie, thirsty for the thrilling pain of love and dramatic action of danger," Gunner summarizes and I roll my eyes while Damon covers his face in embarrassment. I had to admit that his comparisons were spot on but his method of delivery could have been a little more subtle.
"And whose fault is that you big oaf," Damon glares at Gunner.
"Whose fault is what?" Gunner replies confused, too busy ogling the biggest floozy of the school who was eying the three of us like we were turkeys on a Thanksgiving Dinner platter.
"It's your fault that my wife is dead," Damon hisses, his jaw clenched before he turned around and walked away after punching a dent straight into the school's locker.
"Wife?" I mumble, confused. We had one more year left of high school and his unknown girlfriend's been dead for years, how could she have been his wife?
"Uh, he calls her his wife because it's his way of justifying why he's still so hung up on her. You know Damon's always got to be the biggest drama queen around," Gunner says all too quickly and my eyes narrow. Under normal circumstances I probably would have believed the excuse but Gunner looked too much like a deer caught in headlights right now, it put me on guard. "We should hang out, you, Damon and I now that school's out and it's summer vacation," Gunner says, rapidly changing the subject.
"Uh yeah, sure," I say with forced enthusiasm. I was more of a one man act who liked to stay solo. Plus, Damon and Gunner were a little too much for me to handle for extended periods of time without blowing a fuse. I guess you could say I had a bit of a short temper.
"Alright, well I better catch up with Damon now," Gunner says anxiously before he ran out of the school like a bat in hell. After casting a fearful glance at the mob of infatuated girls making their way towards me, I quickly burst out of the school as well and I spread my arms out in the air, feeling the wind surround me as I close my eyes for a minute and pretend that I could fly away from here and find my destiny, my greater purpose.
