The next morning, I took Mimi up on her offer to show me the trail behind the house.
We both woke up around 8 in the morning forgoing breakfast since I was eager to go for a run. Mimi surprised me by being dressed in athletic wear to join me.
"Do you run often?" I ask her as we walk out of the house.
Her platinum blonde hair was tied in a high ponytail that would have made my brain hurt. I settled with a simple braid and a headband.
"I used to a lot when I was younger," she says. "My father tried to talk me into joining the track team for years, but I liked running for fun."
"Where are your parents," I blurt out. "I mean if you don't mind me asking."
She gives me a huge smile. "I don't mind you asking me questions Avery. After Luke and I were mated my parents decided it was time for them to travel the world. They are currently residing in Florida. They know all about you and Morgan. Trixie, my mother already wants to spoil both of you rotten. And Henry, my father, is already making travel plans for Thanksgiving."
"They sound great," I grin. "And Luke's parents?"
Mimi's face turns a little grim. "I've never met them. They are a sore subject for Luke because from what he's ever told me they dumped him on the Alpha family when he turned thirteen and never came back."
"I can already tell he's going to be a great dad," I tell Mimi. "I miss my parents everyday," I pause because my voice cracked. "but ever since you and Luke walked into the orphanage it felt like I belonged with you."
Mimi's crying and I instantly feel guilty. "I didn't mean to make you cry."
Now, she lets out a little laugh. "I'm okay, it's just that's exactly how I felt and I'm incredibly relieved you felt the same way."
For the rest of our walk Mimi has her arm around my shoulder as we continue side by side.
"Here's the starting line," she announces. "It'll take you all around the pack territory and back to this spot."
"You're coming with me right," I ask her.
"I'd love too." She smiles. After our successful run, I promise myself that I am going to run as often as I could. Mimi turned out to be tough competition, but the race was fun.
We are both still laughing and talking about it as we enter the kitchen at the house. Mimi says she'll start on breakfast and I can head up stairs for a shower.
"Where were you?" Morgan's presence scares the crap out of me as I make it to the top of the stairs.
"Goddess, Morgan some warning would be nice." I enter my room and she follows.
"Where did you go?" she repeats sitting on my bed.
"Mimi showed me a trail to go running." I say grabbing my stuff to shower. "She's downstairs making breakfast if you're hungry."
"Ave," Morgan's voice stops me from closing the bathroom door.
"Yeah," I answer leaning against the door.
"I'm sorry about how I acted yesterday," she says quietly. "I'm just not sure how to fit in here yet."
"Don't sweat it kid," I tell her. "You're going to fit in fine. This place is a lot different from past experiences. This is a home filled with love and happiness. Everyone in this town is going to adore you."
Morgan is a blur as she runs to hug me. "I love you, Avery."
I grin. "Love you too, Morgs. Now go get some food and don't eat all the bacon."
