Self-Cleansing

For some Witches, when we are doing magick, it seems as if our toxic feelings are getting in the way of what could potentially be a very excellent spell. I know the hallmark signs- jitteriness when I’m trying to meditate, doubting the effort I’m putting into the sigil my digits are making, and following every rule to the T and still feeling like I can’t be anything other than a mediocre witch. These poisonous thoughts plague our craft, but how do you rid yourself of the feeling? Feelings are nagging and persistent and made to always be there, and so you tell yourself this painful stab of awfulness is perpetual. The truth is, it isn’t. Believe me, it’s a hard thing to ward off at times, but you’ll never be always dunked under the freezing cold waters of it. That’s why I decided to write about this subject, to spread the word about self-cleansing and keeping yourself in a good state of mind.

Mental health of witches varies, like any other group, and I feel as if those who are facing degradation from their families, whether because of their practice or otherwise, need special attention. Every witch is strong in my opinion, but the people like this are far more strong than your average person, but even people with admirable strength need swords to cut down their doubts. The very first is a very mundane thing in general but important nonetheless, and that is reminding yourself that you are your own person, and your measure of worth isn’t decided by those around you. If someone hates you, so be it. You stick your chin up and forget about them. Everyone is living to be the best person they can, and no one can treat you like you aren’t trying.

The second thing is a very basic witchy thing, and possibly an option you’ve already turned to, but this is sigil making. Whether it be doodles to melt away stress or real sigils to cope with your situation, go crazy! Write them on the bottom of your shoe to keep yourself grounded, adorn your skin with Shadowhunter-esque aesthetics, and write them in your notebooks to remind yourself that you can and will make it through the school day. The possibilities of these are endless and so on, so I want you to know that even the basics of Witchcraft can very much help you. The options with sigil making are small and very inconspicuous, and I suggest this to be your first step.

My third suggestion is so tiny but so powerful. I actually did this a while back and have been suggesting this to anyone who will listen. Bless a piece of jewelry and/or something you can carry around with you. This is very important and can feel relaxing, and even just rubbing your finger over something to feel the magick you put into it can be a heavenly endeavor.  Blessing things are rather simple, as you can burn sigils and rub the item in the ash, clean the item as you say an incantation or think of what you want it to do, or even just set it out in the moon with a sigil underneath it so they both meld together. Charging items like this will invigorate your witchy senses and make you feel better!

There are so many other suggestions I can make to you, but for now, these are my couple steps to cleansing all the bad that has pent up. Know that the first step to loving yourself is mundane because everyone has this option, and you need to realize how loved and wanted you are. This steps cannot replace a therapist, traditional medicine, and love from your friends and family, but these are independent steps you can take to launch your own journey into self-love. I hope this article informed you about what you can do, and if you ever need to talk, I hope that anyone of us in our trusted community will allow you into their lives for even 10 minutes just to vent. Thank you for reading!
