LEAH CLEARWATER HATES the concept of imprinting. It had completely ruined her first relationship with the man she thought she would be with forever, and it was now trying to rip apart her and her best friend.
Leah didn't even want to imprint on Sierra Lee, but evidently, fate had different plans for her future. The two had been born together at the same hospital at the same time, and were joined at the hip since that day forth. Leah can still remember Sierra's excited expression when she gushed over the new dress her mother had bought her at the age of six, or her crestfallen face when her first boyfriend broke up with her at the age of fourteen.
Leah can remember all of these memories about her best friend, but that was natural, right? Just because Sierra is the closest person in her life doesn't mean that Leah should succumb to this idea of imprinting and let it control her relationships.
Therefore, Leah keeps the imprint a secret from her best friend. She watches as Sierra grows into this beautiful woman ready for college with a new boyfriend. She watches as Sierra raises her hand in the air to show Leah the new diamond sparkling on her ring finger when she returns for a brief visit. She watches as Sierra gets everything she's ever wanted in her life, and Leah pushes down the pain that's aching in her chest.
Because, honestly, how selfish would she be to end her happiness just because the imprint assumes they should be together?
Maybe that wasn't selfish — it was just damn smart.
