Ahyan had finished talking with his business associates when his phone beeped. He glanced at his watch, 7.30pm. He pressed his lips tightly looking at the message from Mahdia. He is annoyed with her. Firstly, she was behaving oddly with him in the morning and not telling him what was the matter and now even after assuring him she will be on time and she is late by half an hour. Ahyan is a very punctual person and hates late comers, if she couldn't make it on time at least she should have informed him.
Mahdia: I am here
Ahyan furiously: Good for you.
He then stuffed his phone in his coat pocket and continued with his business talk.
Mahdia glanced at her reflection on the glass window at the main entrance. She could have come earlier but after the discovery, she had done back in the washroom stall of her café she had to rush home and change into pants. When she was returning to work when it happened. The stupid cramps. She had to rest at home, lying on the sofa holding hot water bag pressed against her lower belly. Mrs. Siddiqui catering to her. She had wanted to call and inform Ahyan but felt shy to talk about her girly problem with him. She had hoped he would understand but she was wrong.
She adjusted her bag and walked briskly inside. Since the last time, she had been here the place looks more renovated, the best part the place now has electricity. She smiled feeling proud for Ahyan. She saw him busy talking with four men wearing a crisp business suit. Her eyes rested on him. Wearing a navy-blue suit, Ahyan stood out in the crowd. She liked the way he adjusted his glasses at times while talking. She stood there for few minutes, her head tilted little to her side as she admired him.
Ahyan's gaze fell on her, she smiled and waved at him brightly but Ahyan looked away. Mahdia frowned. Oh, maybe he is with other business men that's why he didn't respond, Mahdia thought.
She held the sling of her bag and walked towards them. Ahyan looked at her again and then at the men.
'Gentlemen, please welcome Miss Mahdia Siddiqui. She will be having a branch of her café in our hotel but seems like she doesn't have a watch.' Ahyan smirked. Mahdia stopped in her tracks, her smile disappeared instantly.
The men laughed looking at her. Mahdia felt uncomfortable as she stood by them.
Ahyan removed his watch and passed to her, 'Here have this. don't worry about me, unlike you I keep many watches ensuring I come on time.' he said menacingly. The men laughed. Mahdia stared at the watch, her eyes brimming with tears.
'Come on, take it.' He said extending the watch. Mahdia held the sling of her bag tightly. The laughter piercing her heart but more than that it is Ahyan's insensitive behaviour that is hurting her.
Ahyan extended his hand, held her hand and slammed the watch on her palm, 'This will help you come on time. Now go check the raw materials.' He said dryly.
'Come on, Mr. Malik that is no way to talk to your business partner.' Mahdia heard a man say as she walked away from them. She heard Ahyan mumble something but it was inaudible to her.
Mahdia glanced at her clenched fist and opened it taking out the watch. She felt angry. She threw the watch in the dustbin and wiped her tears with the back of her palms. She adjusted the sling of her bag and inhaled sharply.
She turned around and marched towards Ahyan and the group of men. She knows this is not how business women react but Ahyan didn't behave like a gentleman either.
She stood by them and they looked at her.
'You are a pig, Mr. Malik. Loser.' She spat angrily before turning around and walking away. The men simply gaped at her.
