**I had the song on replay whilst writing this chapter, but you don't have to. If you want the thing to be more emotional, I'll say when to play the song. So, this chapter is pretty sad and emotional, yes.**
I get my white shirt tucked into my denim jeans loosely, Lux watching from my bed. i pick up the green apron with the pizza symbol in the middle, tying the strings behind my back. "Can I make a pizza today?" Lux asks. "Maybe. But you have to have three seven dollars." I wink at her. She rolls her eyes and hops up, following me out the door to walk to the bus stop together. As always, we sit in the back away from everyone else and sit in each other's company, occasionally trying to annoy the other.
"You can put whatever you want on it. These are all the available toppings." I tell Lux as I'm making the dough for her. She studies all of them, planning it out in her head. The I hear the door make its swifty noise, meaning someone has walked in. "I'll be right back. You can start making the dough into a circle. Use the pin if you want." I point tothe rolling pin, wiping my hands on my apron as I walk to the front. "Hi, what can I get ya?" I ask the gentleman. "Three Pepperonia's please." He takes his wallet out, putting the exact amount on the counter and three dollars in the tip jar. "Thank you." I mumble to him, appreciative of the tip.
I can hear Lux coughing. I know she know's to cough in her sleeve, but I just pray she is at the moment. "Have a great day." I smile at the man again, him returning it and walking out of the shop. As I'm putting the change in the register, I hear a loud thump. I look behind me to Lux, who's on the floor and off her stool. "Lux!" I yell out of instict, ditching the money and going to her side. Jay noticed Lux too when she walking back in from the bathroom, looking concerned. "Is she okay?" She asks but I ignore her, turning her face to me.
Now I wish I had a car more than ever.
**Start the song**
I pick Lux up in my arms, holding her like you would a baby. Not cradle, but my forearm supporting her rear end and her head resting on my shoulder. I make her arms come around my neck and hold onto me. I grab her jacket and wrap it over the top of her, running out of the Pizza shop not caring if I'm still in uniform.
I run all the way to the bus stop, but the bus had just left and it's too late now to catch it. I curse and start running the other way, hoping that cutting through will be a faster way to the hospital that's a thirty minute drive. If Jay had a car, I would ask her for a ride but no. She takes the bus too.
"Lux, you're okay just-" I don't even know what to do. "Just stay with me." I hold her closer to me, her feet jiggling around as I'm running and hitting my thighs, which I ignore. Everytime I see a taxi, I try to call it but it just zooms past me. So I just keep running, out of breath or not, I keep up the fast pace and cut through lawns, parks, parking lots and even through buildings as I very slowly near the hospital.
**REPLAY THE SONG**
I run through the parking lot, trying to get through the doors. A car screeches to a stop when I run across the street. I don't even motion a sorry to them, I just run inside and ask for help. The receptionist calls for help just as I had demanded, and as I wait, I pull Lux away from me far enough so I can see her face. "You're okay, Princess." I try to catch my breath and lower my heavy breathing but I can't. I've been non-stop running for an hour or more and surprisingly, I didn't start getting tired until I neared the end of it. Lux doesn't looked convinced as she just closes her eyes again.
Nurses take her from me to go see what's wrong with her, one of them a daily nurse for her and asks her what happened and what's wrong to see if there was anything certain she could do. Another nurse, a male nurse, pulls me aside to ask what happened. I ignore him until Lux is no longer in my sight, then I tell him simply what I know. She was making a pizza, I heard a thump and when I looked over she was on the ground. I guess that helped him some but not a whole lot.
