Me and Calzoo had set up camp outside the village of Tackto. The nature staff's gem had a light green glow that was blinding. It was on my back along with my sword. Calzoo moved around uneasy as he stared at the wall of Tackto.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to set up camp here?" Calzoo asked. "Do you want to keep moving?" I asked him. He shifted on his feet, staring at the ground. His feet hurt. I could tell. I let out a breath. "I'm sorry Calzoo. I really am. I didn't ask for this to happen to us" I admitted. "No, I'm not blaming you for this I just wish your father was a better man" He said with a forced smile. "Or that this stupid staff never got to my father" I whispered.
The staff's gem started to glow even brighter. As if it had hear what I said. The staff was really almost like a person. It reacted to just a word. As if it had emotion. And I felt it too. It felt wrong but right at the same time, like it's some part of me. It's weird in more ways than one.
"I'll be right back" Calzoo said, not making eye contact with me. "Where are you going?" I asked, standing from the log I was sitting on. "To get some air" He said. He spread his wings and jumped into the sky. I watched him fly till the trees blocked my view.
He hates this. I told him he didn't have to come. I wish I didn't go to the room where the staff was. I wish I could go back in time and slap myself for doing it. For "just wanting to see it." Why was I so stupid to think that was a good idea? I guess I deserve this for that choice but he does not. I am so stupid.
I here a twig snap behind me. I spun around. It was a Tackto guard and his wyvern. He hadn't seen me yet. He was walking around the walls of Tackto. He was blond with blue eyes and seemed to be my age. He was dressed from neck to toe in chainmail armor. He must be on patrol. Why didn't I think about that?
The staff's glow faded away as I ran behind a tree so he won't see me. After a few seconds, I pecked around to see him. He seemed to have heard my footsteps. He had stopped. "Did you hear something, Callco?" He asked his wyvern. The purple beast looked at him. "No, why?" It asked. He looked around and he saw my camp sight. "Callco, look" he said, pointing at the camp sight. The wyvern looked at the camp sight. "IS SOMEONE HERE?!" He yelled. The two of them walked up to the sight. They where looking around and messing with stuff. I tried to stay out of view but soon enough, the wyvern saw me.
"HEY!!" It yelled at me. Dang it! I started running as best I could though the trees. But I was nothing against the speed of the wyvern. It rushed at me and used amazing strength to ram it's snout behind my legs and flip me over in midair. I landed on my back. The wyvern was about to jump on me. At that second the staff flashed a blinding, green glow. When the light faded enough to see, I saw the wyvern tied in vines, lying on it's side squirming.
You stupid staff! You just gave me away! I stood to run away. I ran but something got in the way. Fire. The fire didn't spread but it got in my way, no mater what way I tried to go. It seemed to circle me until I just stop trying.
"Well, can you turn around my lady" I heard the guard behind me. He can tell. He knows who I am. I turned to face him. We where standing in a circle of fire. But what I saw in his hand shocked me. The fire staff. One of the Elemental Staffs. It was glowing dark red. I looked him in the eyes.
"It's an honor to meet you, Dragon" He said. There was a real kindness in his voice. I couldn't tell if he was mocking me or not. "What do you want from me?" I asked him frowning. "I don't want anything from you" he said. Again with that strange sense of kindness. "Then why did you stop me?" I asked, getting angry at him. "Do you really think I would be a Tackto guard if people knew I had this?" He asked. He lifted up his staff with a strange look on his face. "What does that have anything to do this?" I said but I already had a idea what his answer was going to be. "People don't just have these staffs you know. It isn't an everyday thing. I would think the princess would know this. If the king knew I had this, he would force me to be a kingdom guard and hunt down the undead king if he found the other holders" He was saying stuff I already knew about. That is the reason I left in the first place. That, and to avoid getting trouble. At least for a little bit. "Do you think I'm stupid? Of course I know this. That's why I'm here" I said, staring him down. "So my point is that, I know how you feel so why would I turn you in for it?" He asked in the kind of tone that made me feel like a little kid. Like a child that can't tell right from wrong. Like I don't know right from wrong. "That brings me back to my question. Why did you stop me?" I asked, crossing my arms.
He lifted his staff and the fire around us disappeared. "I can help you hide in a way that don't involve running" he smiling the kind of smile of someone who was really full of themselves. He pulled a cloth out of his pocket and placed it on top of his staff. In seconds, the cloth seemed to become apart of the gem and reform it to look like the bull head of a normal staff. I stared at him. He held the staff upsidedown for a moment and nothing happened. "The cloth can only be removed by the one who placed it on the staff" He said, proudly. "So what are you proposing?" I asked. He pulled another cloth out of his pocket. "I can help you hide if you keep my staff a secret" He said. "Do you think people will recognize me?" I asked. "No to be honest. No one in Tackto as ever seen you, and brown hair and brown eyes is normal in Tackto" He said. I signed. "Fine, but if you go back on you promise, I make you pay for it" I said. "Deal" He nodded and walked over to his wyvern to untie it. "By the way, my name is Sam" He said, smiling.
Then, out of nowhere, Calzoo landed in front of me and started growling at Sam. His wings spread out, jaw wide open, and his tail raped around my waist. "What the -" Sam started. "Calzoo, calm down" I said, calmly placing my hand on him. "What's going on?" Calzoo asked.
I explained everything that happened to Calzoo. He seemed relieved after I told him. Happy to stop running. I just hope Sam is as trustworthy as he seems.
