Chapter 1
It's freezing outside! It's the day before Christmas Eve, which was my sister's birthday, and already it is very busy at 9:00 in the morning. She says that she likes to celebrate her birthday on the exact day and not celebrate it with Christmas because it is too "special". I somehow forgot to get my little 7 year old sister a present for her birthday and now I'm stuck here, in this big crowd, waiting to get on the subway. The doors to the subway finally open and everyone starts flooding in. Everyone is pushing and shoving, trying to get in and while all of that is happening, I'm being pushed to the back! The doors close before I can get in and so, I wait for the next subway train to come. I'm cold and tried, all I want to do is go home and have a nice cup of hot chocolate, lying on my bed, watching TV. I wish I can be doing that but I can't, I have to get something for my sister for her birthday. Looking around, I see an empty bench and start walking over to it. Not paying attention to the many people around me, I didn't notice that someone already sat on the bench before I did and the next thing I knew was that I sat on an old lady. When I notice that it wasn't a bench and that I sat on an old lady, I apologized immediately and got up. I start walking over to another empty bench and before I sit on it, I make sure that no one else is sitting on it. I'm sitting here, just waiting for the next subway train to arrive so I take out my phone and play my favourite game, Plants vs. Zombies. Every once and a while I check the time hoping the train will come soon. After waiting for like an hour, I get up and walk over to the Customer Service. I have to wait a bit because there were a few people in front of me but I don't mind because I am about to complete the 18th level in my game. Finally there is only one person in front of me but the guy is taking up at least 10 minutes. Once he starts walking off, looking angry, it's my turn. Before I even say anything, the server puts up a sign saying "Happy Holidays! Back in an hour." Now I am angry, tried, and very cold. I think of what to do next and I see that the guy who sells tickets is open. I go over to the guy who sells tickets and luckily, no one was in line. Maybe this guy will be much more helpful than the other server. I ask him my question" Do you happen to know when the next subway train to Willow Street will be arriving?" He replies in a very kind voice" Actually the last subway train to Willow Street left about an hour ago. Sorry but that was the last train to Willow Street for today because it is the Holidays ma'am and we are very busy." I am even angrier; I'm walking out of the subway and start searching for a bus. Sitting on the cold bench, waiting for the bus, the only thing giving me hope to go on in this cold weather is the thought of my little sister happy on Christmas. I'm pretty sure my luck is changing because the bus just arrived after my thought of a happy birthday for my sister. Sitting in the bus and looking outside, it was a very beautiful view even though it is a chilly day. The bus finally arrives at Willow Street. I get out of the bus and onto the sidewalk of Willow Street. The bus actually parked right in front of the shop that I wanted to go in. Looking up at the building, it's a brand new toy store and the name of the toy shop is "Paul's Toy Shop" After noticing that I was freezing in the cold, I walk slowly into the store since I got frostbite and it really hurts. I open the door to go inside and I gush of warm air comes right at me. The store was toasty warm with so many happy children running around, playing with the toys. Everything is so colourful, bright, and new but nothing seems very special. I must look confused because one of the workers walk over to me and ask" Do u need helping with anything ma'am?" I answer" Um, actually yes. I was wondering if you have anything special? "He answers"Well, why don't you look inside that box over there?" I slowly walk over to the box that he was pointing at. The box is the color bright red and has a big perfect golden bow on the top. The present is pretty big and it's on a stand so it is hard to open the lid. After awhile of trying to reach the top of the box by standing on my tippy toes, I notice a stool beside my feet. I feel so stupid that I didn't even know the stool is there! I look around; making sure no one is watching me make another mistake before I stand the stool. I see a little boy, staring at me and he has mouth wide open. I'm not sure what to do because the little boy is kind of freaking me out right now. Finally, he walks off but he is still staring at me. I stand on the stool and open the lid of the box very slowly....
