"Your doctor said you can go home tomorrow," Blake said as he returned from the deli across the street with two toasted wrapped ham and cheese sandwiches.
He gently placed mine on a tray before loosening up his tie and crashing down in the nearby chair by my bed.
"Thank you," I said as I bit into it letting the warmth cascade down my mouth and settle gently within my stomach.
I never realized how delicious such a thing could be until living off of dirt and berries for a few years, but now as I dug into it hungrily I enjoyed it with a new appreciation for the simpleness of it.
"What was it like?"
It took me a minute to realize he had spoken sense I was so in tune with eating, I looked up to see him watching me intently.
"The island, what was it like." He said again this time not so quite.
I swallowed the cheese seeming to have a hard time going down before I found myself speaking.
What did I say?
My body was covered in scars, scars in which told a story a story I wasn't ready to tell.
"Lonely."
"It was very lonely and quite." I said finally deciding that was the best choice of words I continued to eat though I didn't mistake the look that crossed over his face.
Pity.
Such a word was never meant for me, just because I was taken from civilization didn't mean I was meant to be pitied on.
Finishing my sandwich I found myself pulling off my covers and setting my feet on the cold tile ground.
As soon as I was sure I could stand I raised myself on unsteady legs and moved towards the window staring out at the night.
Acura city.
A flash of dad looking back at me crossed the window and I found myself reaching out my hand to touch his.
"Don't forget."
How could I?
The one piece of childhood I would ever have was ripped away from me and the people responsible needed to pay.
"The company is well if you were wondering." Blake said coming up beside me as I lowered my hand, dad began to faint into nothing until I was staring back at a dead city.
My city.
"I suppose it is after all in good hands?"
I found myself asking.
Blake shrugged."When they read the will it was suppose to go to you,but of course you weren't here so your uncle runs it."
I nodded,"Fair enough."
Blake sighed and gently touched my shoulder,"My office will have to open it later, your not eighteen yet so don't expect any changes okay?"
I nodded in agreement and once I was sick of the view I turned away and back to my bed where I stared up at the Tv.
The sound was off but it was just a news reporter on a crime spree that had been going on lately, according to the subtitles.
"Suppose they'll be showing my face again." I mumbled referring to the news reports from earlier.
Blake smiled,"Your uncle had the press hold back for a minute at least until your released."
I glanced up at Blake and took in how diligently he watched the news and how he winced every few seconds as he read the subtitles.
"I take it you didn't become a superhero like you wanted to be?"
I found myself asking.
He looked over at me, his blue eyes warming up a bit reminding me of an ocean.
"I became something even better. A lawyer."
My eyes widened in surprise.
Blake was only three years older than me,yet to be one at such a young age was mind boggling.
He seemed to have read my expression because he let out a hearty laugh and smiled.
"After you uhm left I kind of hit my studies hard, graduated early. Your uncle pulled a few strings down at the DA's office for me." He went on to explain.
"That's really good," I said though when I smiled I couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt.
I had missed so much in his life, time I would never get back.
I turned my head to the window again trying to figure what else I had missed in the world.
