we were listening to the music play through the car radio.
my dad was driving with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding my mom's hand.
my little brother and I sat in the back seat.
my brother was singing along to the radio as I watched every tree we passed, admiring how the fall changed the color of each tree.
next thing I know horns honked, tires screeched, and blood was everywhere.
this was it,
we were gonna die.
the only thing I remembered was being comforted by a first responder in the back of an ambulance.
I could feel the speed of the ambulance and I could hear the sirens.
I was laying on the stretcher with an IV hooked up to me and a mask on my nose.
"where are they?" I say almost out of breath.
"shh honey it's going to be alright." the lady says as she rubs my hand.
I close my eyes and try to think positive.
"poor thing," the lady says to a fellow first responder that was with her, "she's gonna be all alone. nobody from her family made it."
