Extended summary-
Miriam was fire, and as captivated as nick was, he was never going to let her burn him.
When Miriam goes missing and a piece of Nicks memory goes with her, it's no coincidence. Whatever happened on the night Nick can't seem to remember, it's undeniably in correlation with Miriam's disappearance.
Nick wants his flame back.
He just doesn't want to reach out in to the darkness to find her, and risk not only burning himself- but shining light on things that flourish in the abyss.
