Chapter 1; The Forest
Addison
Goosebumps covered Addison's skin in the cold air. They were a new feeling to her, she never got cold in Arizona. The bumps felt so foreign to her fingertips as she rubbed her arms up and down to stay warm. Her 5'8 model figure felt tiny compared to the towering trees around her. The forest was still and flat, there was no wind, but the chilly air pierced her tan skin. Although little experience with the cold, she knew she would have to find a source of heat or she wouldn't last much longer.
Addison wandered around the tall pine woods looking for anything that would keep her warm. She took slow steps, dead plants crunched under her Maroon Doc Martens. They were her favorite shoes that were inseparable from her, she wore them everyday. She loved them so much, they made her feel edgy and unique. Thinking about fashion always made her happy because she loved it.
She continued to roam the woods. The Christmas-like trees were everywhere, the scent of pine permeated throughout the forest. The ground was covered in a blanket of pine needles. She assumed it was sometime in between Autumn and Winter, since the forest lacked snow but withheld the cold temperatures of Winter. The woods were silent in an unsettling way, it gave Addison the chills, but she continued walking. A powerful gust of wind swept past her, casting her loose brown curls in her face, and then a consistent wind began whisking from behind her. The cold was increasing rapidly and so was the wind. She hugged herself tightly in her army-style jacket. The wind was fighting against her like an army of soldiers, ferociously pushing her back. Persistent, she continued into the wind as the daylight faded.
After a long battle facing the wind, Addison gave up. She found a large pine tree with a wide trunk and settled under it. The trunk was solid and stiff, but it felt like a million pillows to her after walking for over an hour in the wind. Luckily too, the tree offered some protection from the brisk winds. She rested on the ground, with her back against the trunk and her feet straight in front of her. She sighed in relief and closed her eyes for a few short minutes.
The world called her back to attention when wind intensified and her teeth began to chatter. She was unsure of what to do, so she laid on her side and curled up into a ball. Her legs began to tingle as she lost feeling in them. This is the end, she thought to herself, as her legs went fully numb. The world was fading from her vision, everything became a blur. The sunset in the distance gave of little light, and soon it was night.
Later, after laying there in silence, a deep sadness took over her body, she cried in the darkness. This is where I am going to die, she thought. She tried thinking of her life and reminiscing about happy memories, but she couldn't recall any. Not sad memories or even a memory at all. She picked through her head, not a single memory. How could she just forget all of her memories? She still knew what things were, like numbers, letters and words, but she could not fathom them into any memory. The sadness that controlled her turned into a sort of rage. She clenched her fist tightly, she wanted to punch something despite the lack of feeling in her hands. Her body shook, not from the cold anymore, but of anger. She sat up again, her breathing hastened as she seethed with rage. A piercing scream hit the air, it was hers, it felt so good letting out her frustration. She opened her hands when she felt something warm. The palms of her hands ignited a blazing fire, lighting up the space around her. Crackling flames danced on her hands, and suddenly she wasn't cold anymore.
"She is a flame, beautiful, untamed, and dangerous. She is filled with great strength, but with it comes the task of controlling the fire within"
