"This is it, folks! The rematch to be remembered, the final face-off between the greatest rivals in Seoul, the Reaper versus the Stone Rabbit!"
Eomma stayed close to the radio, even though she pretended not to listen as she washed the dishes. Jungkook played with his figurines, making 'pew pew pew' noises with his mouth as he pitted his figurines against each other in what was, to him, truly the fight of the decade. But to his mother, they're simply annoying noises keeping her from listening to the match.
"Now, Chulsoo, there have been rumors that both of these boxing legends are planning to call it a career after this last fight."
Eomma sighed, but Jungkook didn't know why. Jungkook kept playing with his toys, and on a whim decides that his sergeant should die.
"No, no! You can't leave me like this!" Jungkook shook the private in the air as he emulated what he believed was the toy's frightened voice. The sergeant and the private were childhood friends, but their social status put then in different positions. But social status could not tear them apart, and they had planned to resign after the war ended to pursue their own dreams. But a stray bullet from an enemy soldier would change all of that.
"It's a good thing, honestly, that we're able to say goodbye to our favorite fighters with what is sure to be a spectacular fight."
Jungkook dropped the sergeant on the table. Eomma jumped at the sound, but softened when she realized it was just her son playing.
"Tell my wife and children... -bzzt bzzt- I want them to know..." Jungkook imitated the noise of the sergeant's walkie-talkie crackling and tried his best to sound like a man who knew he was letting down everything he loved: his family, his friends, and his nation, because his aging senses kept him from noticing the bullet coming his way. But Jungkook was only seven, and he had no idea what that would sound like.
"Things are always so unpredictable whenever the Reaper and the Stone Rabbit are in the ring together."
"What is it, Jungsik?" Jungkook saw the private wailing by the sergeant's side and holding his hand to his chest, but it was very hard to do that with stationary figures so he just shook the private next to the sergeant.
When Jungkook said 'Jungsik' with no honorifics, Eomma looked up and looked sternly at her son.
"Don't say your father's name disrespectfully like that," she scolded.
"Here he comes right now, everyone! Give your attention to the Reaper!"
The radio erupted with the sounds of screaming and applause. Eomma didn't react, though, and neither did Jungkook seem to care.
"What is it, Jungsik-nim?" Jungkook corrected himself. Eomma chuckled and returned to washing. She wasn't pretending to not listen to the radio anymore. She looked at the radio really hard, like lasers would shoot out of her eyes and burn it to ashes.
Jungkook liked Appa's real name a lot. It sounded a lot like his own name. He didn't like that whenever he saw his dad on TV or in magazines they always called him 'Stone Rabbit.' It was a pretty stupid nickname. Appa liked it, though. He said it was like his secret identity. Appa called Jungkook his 'Golden Bunny' so that their secret identities matched. Appa never thought Jungkook was too small for a secret identity.
"But don't get too excited just yet; here he comes, the Stone Rabbit!"
Eomma put her hand to her chest and made a noise that sounded like a cross between a sob and a sigh, but she was smiling widely. Jungkook put down his toys for a second to clap childishly for Appa, then went back to playing.
