As the Telmarines moved their army forward, a lump formed in my throat; one I couldn't swallow. I knew I should've put a force field over the How! As Peter and everyone else headed back inside the How, an idea sparked in my head.
This is a completely mental idea! My logic shouted at me. I paced the ledge and thought everything over. Craziness is needed right now! It's best plan I've got! My logic rolled her eyes. Peter is probably in there making a plan without you.
That got my attention. I jerked around to see them walking down the steps. "Hey! Wait up!" I dashed after them, scowling at Peter's chortles. We walked to the tactics room and sat around the table. Peter gave us his idea of what we should do.
He thought it was wise to send Lucy and Susan back to the River Rush where Lucy saw Aslan while we held the Telmarines off. He had this idea that the Lion might show Himself to Lucy. And it wasn't bad thinking either. "Cakes and kettledrums. That's your next big plan? Sending a little girl into the darkest parts of the forest? Alone!" Trumpkin asked Peter.
Peter's lips drew to a thin line. I could tell he wasn't crazy about the idea either, for he said, "It's our only chance." "And she won't be alone." Susan piped up, placing a hand on Lucy's shoulder. Trumpkin rounded the table and stood in front of Lucy.
"Haven't enough of us died already?" he asked softer. I bit my lip. I had completely missed Nikabrik trying to kill both Trumpkin and Lucy. Trufflehunter, sat next to Ed, said sadly, "Nikabrik was my friend, too. But he lost hope. Queen Lucy hasn't. And neither have I."
Reepicheep hopped up onto the table and drew his blade across his chest. "For Aslan." he said solemnly. A Bulgy Bear, standing in the corner, took his paw out of his mouth. "For Aslan!" "Then I'm going with you." Trumpkin told Lucy firmly. I smiled softly. Trumpkin and Lucy had become tight-knit friends since they met.
Lucy placed a hand on her friend's shoulder and said, "No. We need you here." Peter nodded. "We have to hold them off until Lucy and Susan get back." I decided then that I was going to announce my mental idea. Just as I opened my mouth, Caspian stood up, with reassuring glances from Sebastian and Cornelius. I snapped my mouth shut.
"If I may...Miraz may be a tyrant and a murderer...but as king, he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people. There is one in particular that may buy us some time." Peter shifted his weight and looked at me.
I looked at him before turning my gaze back to Caspian, saying, "Go on." He explained the idea of a duel. "That's brilliant." I beamed, my idea nagging inside my head. Peter looked down at my hand and I saw that I had been tapping it impatiently on the table. Oops.
"Laure, was there something you wanted to say?" Peter asked, amused. I flushed and looked down at my feet. "I dunno...it's completely mental." I mumbled. He chuckled and brushed his hand against mine, sending fire through my skin.
"Go on and tell us. I'm sure it's brilliant." he encouraged. The look on his face, so full of faith and reassurance, made me feel like I had to tell them. "Well, my plan doesn't have to do much with strategy. It has to do with our numbers primarily. So we can use Caspian's great plan. I have this insane idea that maybe, just maybe, I could open a Portal to Hogwarts and get my friends to help us out. We could use them as aerial forces and they could concentrate on destroying the catapults and ballistas. We'd have the chance to take control of the battle."
