"Tommy get off! Stop it!" Lacey my ten year old little sister yells. "Lana make him stop!"
"Tommy, you know you aren't supposed to be jumping around the car when mom is driving." I scolded.
"But Lana I don't want to move. I don't want to see the new house. I want to be at our old house. I don't want to move at all I like our old house. I want to play outside." Tommy wined.
"I don't want to move either." I say softly.
Our dad's job relocated him to the Southern part of Tennessee. Which means again we have to get a new house and go to a new school. We are on our way to our new house right now. I've only seen it in pictures but it seems really creepy and old fashioned. Like one of those old houses from the late 1800's that rich people live in. Or those kind that are always in horror movies.
"We're here." Mom said parking the car.
"I'm not leaving!" Tommy yelled when I tried to get him out of the car.
"Suit yourself. Lana and I will go and check out the house and get first choice on our rooms. You might get lucky If you end up in the attic." Lacey taunted.
This made Tommy bolt out the car and push Lacey out of the way. He ran straight for the house with Lacey hot on his heels. I walked in and froze in my tracks because I didn't realize how big this place was. I sneeze after a few seconds, it's a little dusty to. It has two flights of stairs going up on either side of the large room I'm standing in. I can hear Tommy and Laila's voices echo through the halls as they argue over a room they both clearly want.
I specifically choose the flight of stairs to my right even though they both lead t the same place. I don't know why its like something is telling me go up these stairs. As I begin to ascend the stairs they creek. One step in particular creeks the loudest. When I reach the top of the stairs I stop to look around a bit. The small unlit hallways look ominous, like a black abyss.
I felt something brush against my leg and flinch. I'm about to scream but when I look down it's just a small black cat. The cute little thing is staring up at me. I bend down to pet the cat and it purrs. It brushes against me and then runs down the hallway in front of me. It looks back at me like it wants me to follow so I do.
The cat I decided to call Smudge lead me to a small dark room. I tried to turn on the light, but it doesn't work. Instead I see something glowing behind a tall dresser. It's doesn't look like a normal glow. It's a blueish glow that has an eerie look to it. I push the dresser out of the way to reveal a mirror.
The mirror is tall, has a copper frame, and hangs on the wall. The strange blue light was coming from the mirror. It's glow was coming from what looked like blue fog in the mirror. I stare at my reflection in the mirror until a crash startled me. When I look back to see what the crash was Smudge had knocked something off one of the shelves.
I turn back to the mirror but when I look in it, it's not my reflection in the mirror. It's an old lady's reflection. She has long straight white hair with crystal blue eyes. If she didn't have wrinkles she wouldn't look old at all. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
"Hello Lilly. My name is Mrs. Agnes Rawnsley ,but you may call me Agnes." I stand there speechless still not believing what I was seeing. Agnes continued talking as my mouth drops open. "Close your mouth dear, don't act shocked and don't be so shy. I wont hurt you."
"How...... How do you know name?" I ask. "And how are you in that mirror."
"Some things are better left mysteries." She replied. "Come closer child. Look me in the eye."
I hesitated before coming any closer but eventually I did come closer. Agnes's crystal blue eyes were so pretty they could also be described as mesmerizing. The blue in her eyes seemed to swirl in circles. They were almost hypnotizing.
"Come closer dear child please." Agnes beckoned again.
I start to come a little closer when my brother calls from down stairs.
"Lilly come here! Mom says you have to help with dinner." Tommy calls.
I quickly snapped out of my daze and run down stairs. I hadn't said so but I had a feeling Agnes knew I was going to come back. I had to, Agnes was to pretty not to see again and I still want to know all the mysterious things about her. Also there was still something odd about her but I can't figure out what though.
When I walk down stairs my mom is starting to fix my great-grandmothers mac-in-cheese. It was easy to make so that explains why she's making it tonight. I started setting the table like I do every night. Then help my mom make dinner. I cut up some apples for my siblings and got out some strawberries.
When dinner was ready my dad was home and we all sat down to eat. It was mostly quiet besides the small talk like how was your day and stuff like that. In the middle of a long silence there was another crashing noise that came from upstairs. I explained to my parents and siblings that it was probably just Smudge and they said I can keep him if I clean up after him.
After I quickly ate my dinner and a piece of chocolate pie I ran upstairs. I told my parents I was going to unpack so they wouldn't bother me and find out about Agnes. I was eager to see Agnes again. When I got up to the room there was no blue fog and the mirror was smashed. I wont ever be able to figure out Agnes's secrets know and how did the mirror get smashed.
I guess some things really are better left mysteries.
