The day was almost over, the moon was already rising into the sky as the sun failed to light up the village any more and floated back down till' you couldn't see it. In the small town of dragons, there was an egg. This egg was very special. This egg had to be protected. A  bronze and rust colored dragon wrapped her tail protectively around it, watching and listening carefully for any sign of danger. Her amber flecked yellow eyes scanned the desert, prepared for anything. Something crackled, like a stick, and the bronze dragon whipped her head around to see an old male dragon the color of emeralds come trudging towards her.

"Venus! Why are you here, you know as well as I that it is dangerous to be out on the eclipse!" she whispered violently, but her face looked soft and worried, not angry.

"I had to see how you and the egg were doing!" Venus wheezed. "It could be any minute now for them to come, and I can't just leave you here alone with the egg, that would make me such a cruel dragon!" The old male went on. " And besides, you can't just...

The brown dragon rolled her eyes as the ancient dragon protested warily. She waited until Venus was finished  with his worries and started to try and soothe him with her words.

" Venus, I think you are overreacting! Yes, it is dangerous, to do what I'm doing, protecting the only thing that will renew our planet once they do their job here, which will be soon." She sighed looking up to the sky before starting again. " We have to do this, and besides, we are all going to the same place, Venus! So please, for both our sakes, go home!" She pleaded.

Venus looked like he wanted to protest, he stepped forward, "But Loot..." Loot shook her head and pointed to the direction he came from, giving him a stern look, with a little bit of sorrow, until finally he started to make his way back to his den, making sand fly everywhere every time he took a step.

Loot watched Venus walk away until he was out of sight, then looked lovingly at her egg, a crimson color with black and dark purple spleckles, and a grayish-blue mist color covering it all. To Loot, it was the most beautiful thing in the world. And the most important. Then she heard something, like a zap of lightning struck the cacti on the sand dune by her den. Loot crawled out to see what was happening, and what she saw made her heart drop to her stomach.

Right in front of her, there was something like a small tornado. It shone like the sun, golden strings wove around in a complete circle, whistling  and turning smoothly. Loot's eyes stung and her heart thumped loudly. "They're here!" She whispered hoarsely.

Loot raced back inside the den and gathered some logs by the entrance and set them down under a hole in her home. She shot some flames from her mouth, the smoke drifted out into the open, giving a signal to the other dragon's living nearby. Then she yanked a satchel hanging on the wall and being very careful, she set in the red egg.

Loot ran as fast as she could from the small village. Once she found a safe place, she set the satchel on the soft grass and looked at her muddy talons. She sighed. Boy, it sure has been a long time since I last used magic! She thought, but she knew she had to protect her beloved cargo. Loot closed her eyes and tried to concentrate, and soon enough she felt the magic seeping into her.

Loot picked up the egg, and being careful not to drop it, she whispered," Enchant this egg so that it will not be taken, but that it will stay on this planet." She sighed. It is not the best, but it will do." She though warily. She dug a deep hole into the soft earth, and placed her egg inside it. Once she was done covering the crimson colored egg, she said goodbye to her prized possession  and ran off to the village.

The small tornado was still there, but dragons were coming out of it. They all looked the same, black and ugly, their ribs showing and scars all over their grayish black bodies. They kept on coming out, infinite numbers of the ghost-like dragons. Loot knew that they were coming for the dragons in the village, in fact, they were coming for every breathing creature on her planet. And they will succeed. She thought, disgusted. But there is still hope! She remembered that her small egg was hidden, and will never be found by them. She will save us, I have hope, and hope is all I need.
