Elise and I spent another week in the hospital, and then we had to go home and face the memory of our dead daughter.
Elise cried continiously for three days.
When she finally pulled it together, she spent another three days sitting around not talking and not eating, or bathing.
"Elise." I continiously said, but she didn't move.
All she did was breathe and blink.
It started to worry me.
I called her doctor, and he refered her to a therapist to help her deal with her loss.
He suggested that I go with her.
I spent too much time working to do that.
So, I went to work, and Elise went to therapy.
"How are you doing?" Tony asked.
"I'm okay, but Elise is a mess. She hasn't said a word in four days. I took her to the hospital, and the doctor ordered her to go to therapy, so this morning she went to therapy." I said.
"Is she gonna be okay?" Jaime asked.
I shrugged, "I sure hope so. They said I should go to therapy too, but I don't think I need it. I think I need to come here and do this." I said.
"You have a broken arm, you can't play, your best bet would be to just go home and rest." Tony said.
"I'm already here." I said shrugging.
"You can't play. Just go home." Jaime said.
I finally gave up and went home.
I walked in and laid on the couch.
It took me a second to realize that I was laying on Emma's favorite blanket.
I rolled over and let myself fall asleep on it.
I was awakened when the door opened.
I sat up.
"Hi babe." I said.
Elise looked at me and cracked a small smile, "Hi." She whispered.
"Everything go okay?" I asked.
She sat down beside me, and laid her head on my chest, "Yeah." She whispered.
"You hungry?" I asked.
She nodded.
It wasn't much, but it was progress.
She was at least talking now.
I made us both some lunch and we sat down.
"Dr. Ray said that if I keep going to therapy, it will help me a lot." She whispered.
"Good." I said.
"She said that it would help you too, if you would go." She said looking up at me.
I shook my head, "I don't need to go. I'm fine." I said.
"She told me that they all say that. Vic, I just think you should try it. At least for my peace of mind." She said.
I sighed, "I'll think about it." I said.
She hugged me, "If not for me, then do it for Emma." She said.
I looked at the framed picture of Emma on the wall beside me, "I'll go one time." I said.
The one time I went to therapy, is the one time I really felt blame for my daughter's death, and I vowed never to go again.
"You didn't even listen to her." Elise argued.
