She resurfaced from the water, and sighed. Her precious lake was her happy place. Submerged under the water felt so carefree. She was away from the cruel world, and was taken away to a beautiful place. The sun was setting, and she was getting extremely cold. She missed Aaron. Aaron would've torn off his jacket and gave it to her. Gratefully, she would've taken it and they would have a kiss in the misty air. She pulled herself up onto the pier and looked upon the water. The water glistened and shimmered upon the setting sun. Beautiful. She decided she needed Aaron right now.

She wanted to do a Skype call, so she called him in hopes of him answering. He answered after a few rings. "Aaron." She said, softly. The camera spanned to a girl with barely any clothes on lying in a bed. "Yes?" She asked. I braced for the best, because the worst had already struck my family enough honestly. "Can I speak to Aaron?" I asked, mentally crossing my fingers for the best. I couldn't bring myself to believe the likely truth. "Who are you?" She asked, sassily.

"I'm Jordyn? Aaron's girlfriend?" I told her, looking for any sign of remembrance. "What are you even talking about? I'm obviously his girlfriend. Don't you see me in his bed, twerp?" She said, rolling her eyes. I heard Aaron ask who it was on the other end and the girl told him disgustedly. "Some girl named Jordyn." She said. "Really? What the crap?!" He exclaimed. He tore the phone out of her hand, and spanned the camera to himself. "Jordyn. It's not what it looks like. It was a mistake. I'll never do it again." He said, pleading.

I shook my head, furiously. "I gave you way too many chances, Aaron. This is the fifth time this has happened. I love you so much, but apparently it's not mutual." I said, tears streaming down my face. He said a lot more, but I wasn't even listening. I dropped my phone into the water, mindlessly. I was like a robot. Tuning everything out, I ran into my garage and hopped on my bicycle. I needed some time to think. I decided I'd go to the local cafe a few blocks down. I rode, ignoring all the friendly smiles and waves that tried to greet me happily. I was broken, really. Once I reached the cafe, I slung my bike on the curb and ran inside to organize my thoughts. He cheated on me again. He cheated on me again. That's all that was going through my head. I sat in one of the booths, chewing on my nail. A few minutes had gone by when a waiter approached me. I didn't acknowledge them, until the person sat down in front of me. I looked up, and raised my eyebrow.

"Yes?" I asked. "I'm Nathan. Short for Nathaniel." He said, smiling a big grin and extending his hand out to me. I cautiously took it, and shook it slowly. He shrugged off his jacket, and placed it in my hands gently. "Um, no thanks." I said, trying to make him go away. "You sure? I mean, you are in a very exposed bathing suit in public." He pointed out. I looked down at my body, and took the jacket quickly. It smelled of lavender and cologne. I inhaled it, swiftly. "Okay. Just put that on the coat rack when you leave." He said, standing up and leaving. Wait, he didn't even take my order.

A elderly woman came up to me and sat down next to me. "What's wrong, my dear?" She asked, out of the blue. "Excuse me, ma'am?" I said, startled. What was up with all these random people coming up and sitting down with me so abruptly? "You always come in here with a smile on your face. And today it was the opposite. You can tell me." She said. I smiled at her sadly. "I dumped my boyfriend today because he was cheating on me with another girl." I said.

"Oh. That's never a good thing." She said, rubbing her chin softly. I shook my head. "Oh, he was just a detour off the road." She said, plainly. "What?" I asked, confused.

"Well, let's just say he was part of a bigger plan. He's your key to bigger and better things. Besides, you don't need a man. You're just fine yourself." She said, shrugging. "Well, I never thought of that. I mean, a boyfriend just seems like a thing you're supposed to have, you know? Especially being fresh out of college." I said, thinking deeply. "Why do you even feel like that? You shouldn't. Because if you do feel like that, that means you'll be like everybody else. And you don't want that. Trust me." She said.

I really needed one though. My friends had nagged me to death to get one, so I found Aaron.

"It's the little things in life, m' dear, that will make you happy till forever." She said, getting up and walking back into the kitchen.
