Chapter 2-Pretty Boy
The next morning I rolled out of bed right onto the floor. “Ugh.” The sound came from underneath me and I sat up to find that I was sitting on top of Liam. My bed was more than big enough for the both of us but he had insisted that he didn’t want to intrude. I rolled off of him and slowly got up. I walked down the hall to my bathroom where I splashed water on my face. I then proceeded to brush my teeth and comb my short hair in that way that I did every morning. It drove the ladies crazy, and I had no idea why.
I examined my naked chest in the mirror and I had to admit that I am incredibly fit. My body was already ready to be the Marine that I had always wanted to be. After this year I would be that Marine and my dad would have been proud to see me do it. I walked back towards my room ready to go for the day. I was definitely a morning person as every Marine should be. When I reentered my bedroom Liam was still lying on the floor with no clear intention of getting up anytime soon.
“Get up!” I shouted throwing my soccer ball lightly at his shoulder.
“Ow!” he yelled half-heartedly as he slowly sat up rubbing his eyes with his fists. “How are you so awake its freaking five thirty in the morning?”
“I’m a future Marine remember?” I said as if stating the obvious. I grabbed his hand and pulled him up. He was really close to me with only our still clasped hands between our chests. That should have been weird but there was no awkwardness.
“You have a tattoo?” He asked gesturing to the words on the right side of my collar bone before he let go of my hand and went to get some clothes.
“Yeah, it says Semper Fi.”
“You’re really into this Marine shit huh?”
“Like I said, my dad was a Marine, and a damn good one.”
“Where’s your dad now?”
“He died when I was thirteen,”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” He apologized more for bringing it up I think than for it having happened.
“Nah, he died in Afghanistan fighting for our country. He went down shooting and he was a good man. I’ve had a few years to move on and now I’m going to honor him by becoming a Marine like we always planned.”
“That’s pretty cool.” He said while pulling on a pair of black skinny jeans, a plain blue t-shirt, and a white hoodie that zipped in the front. I pulled on a pair of regular black jeans, a white t-shirt and the black leather jacket that I always wore. I then hooked my black sunglasses over the top of my t-shirt.
“You ready?” I asked.
“For what?” He asked still groggy.
“Not a morning person?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Well get used to it.” I said as I lead him out of the room and down to the kitchen where I made eggs and toast for us to eat.
“How old are you?” I said suddenly realizing that I didn’t even know.
“Seventeen, you?”
“Eighteen.” I answered. “We should get going so that we can get you checked in at school, get your schedule, and give you a tour.” He nodded in agreement and we headed out to my car. It was nothing fancy, a red 2010 Chevy Cruze. The school was less than ten minutes away and we arrived at about 6:30 which was a full hour and a half before school started. We walked into the main office,
