Elvis Edilio

His name is Elvis. Elvis Edilio, my father. Well, not father. Biology doesn't much matter. I've had one parent. That's enough. I don't have a father, and I never will.

But this guy... well, he's more than just someone who gave me his DNA. He's more than just a father. He's a murderer.

I see his hands drenched in blood as I sleep. There's a body on the floor, I can't tell whose. It's a  woman's body, that's for sure. She lied topless on the ground with her chest cracked open. Her chest is a crater. There's the rib bones, submerged in blood, but otherwise, the chest is empty. No lungs, no heart. I keep trying to look away, but my eyes stay locked on where her heart should be. As I finally pull myself away from her I hear a shriek, a blood-curdling, glass shattering shriek. I turn back to Elvis hovering over her in his nice grey suit, holding a heart that's been charred. He looks up at me, his icy eyes lock onto mine, and I wake up, shivering.

"Finally, you're awake."

I can't speak. My throat is so dry I feel it cracking beneath my voice, strangling to get out.

"Don't speak," he says, and grabs something next to him. He puts it up to my face - a glass of water. I down the water and look up at Bruno.

"What's going on?" I ask. Where am I? Why is Bruno here? How long have I been out for? are all more questions that I really want to ask.

"I got you out of there; you're fine," he says, shaken up.

"What?"

"I had to knock you out."

"What?" I ask, even louder. I don't even know this guy, and he's telling me he just knocked me out?

"The Imperium showed up. I got you out before they started shooting."

Oh, no. Not another shooting.

"Look, I work for the Imperium, all right? But not how you think. I know you were trying to kill the President, but even if you did, you'd never be able to get them all. That day, there was an attack in play. You got in the way of that, or at least you were going to get in the way of that. I had to knock you out. I wasn't going to get shot because I'm part of the Imperium, so if they saw me dragging away an unconscious body, no one would think anything of it. Look-"

"Wait, the Imperium is responsible for all of these attacks? That day? I thought this just happened. How long have I been here?"

"You've been out for three days, and we're not in Grenin anymore. I had to take you out of the country. You're dead, Missing in Action, whatever. Your foster family and the rest of the world will just assume from the attack."

"My foster family? How do you know I have a foster family? How do you know anything about me? Has the Imperium been watching me? And where the frick am I?"

"The Imperium is responsible for the attack, yes, but I don't work for them the way you think. I work for the other side, for your mother. That's how come I know so much about you. You've been my case for the pass two years. I know everything about you from how many foster homes you've been in to the name of your school crush last year in math. And this means that your mother knows these things, too. She's not dead. She is the head of the Resistance."
