A sigh escaped my lips as I headed towards where the punching bags were. Seth’s broken expression haunted my mind, making my heart ache as well.
Was I too harsh? I thought.
“Hey are you alright?” said Tanner, cutting through my thoughts.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I said, brushing it off.
He nodded understandingly.
“Hey, where’s your sister?” I asked Tanner.
“Well sh—“
“I’m here! Sorry I’m late,” a voice called our in the entrance of the gym. Loud footsteps on the mats sounded and I met eyes with Liz.
“Liz where have you been?” demanded Tanner.
She simply rolled her eyes patting her twin’s back.
“No worries my dear brother. I just had a little run in with Shirley,” she said.
“What did she want?” I asked.
“She was just asking how we have been doing. You know, team wise,” Liz explained.
Tanner and I exchanged glances and gave her a disbelieving look.
“Really?” we simultaneously said.
“Mmmhhmm,” she spoke, her tone sounding too innocent.
Tanner poked her cheek stating, “We aren’t done with this conversation Liz. I’m gonna head to the to the shooting quad. If you need me I’ll be there.”
“Alrighty,” we both replied.
Once Tanner was out of sight, Liz grabbed my arm asking, “So, did you see that little boyfriend of yours?”
I groaned covering my face. Seth’s face flashed into my mind again, his green eyes filled with sadness.
Liz gasped and apologized, “Oh god, I’m sorry Jess did I say something wrong?”
I shook my head and told her, “No it’s just that, we had a little argument a while ago and I’m still recovering is all.”
She eyed me sympathetically.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
I glanced at her face. She looked so genuine I felt like I could tell her anything. I had cut all my ties of communication from my friends from school because of my parent’s death and the whole secret agent thing.
And so, I told her. From when I saw his face to when I left him.
