Red Strings (5 Seconds of Summer fanfic)

Chapter 21

Skyler's POV

"Hoodling!" I say as I walk into school putting my arm around Calum, "Hoodling?" he questions giving me a puzzled look I shrug "I was trying out a nickname" I reply "so where's Natalie?" I say bumping his shoulder intentionally I see a grin cross his face 

"there's practise tonight right?" he asks changing the subject I roll my eyes before nodding, "yup" I say popping the p sound. "Hey Calum," Mallory says appearing out of what seemed like no where. "Hey Mallory" Calum replied scratching the back of his neck 

"can't wait to see you in play practise tonight" she winked before catching up with a group of girls who seemed to be all staring at Calum with disbelief.  "Why are they all staring at me?" He asked so innocently it was almost ridiculous I look at them all Mallory giggling and pointing at Calum before sending him what I assume to be a flirty wave. 

I look back at Calum who is still looking at me waiting for an answer. "If I told you your head would get way to big and I can't have that." I say simply skipping off, purposely stopping right next to the group of girls and waving at Calum "bye Cal," I sing continuing to walk past a smug look on my face. 

It was one of those day that actually seemed to go pretty well, and I found myself walking into the drama room with minimal homework. "Eyy," I say finding my spot in the large circle in between Natalie and Luke. They both smile at me before looking back at the teacher. 

"Alright today will begin the blocking of the scene and we will continue to practise even more." There are some groans from the crew, also known as the people who have to help with the musical for extra credit. I smirk pulling out my script "alright everyone turn to scene 5" I gulp seeing that this is the one where I have to sing, I gulp and Natalie shoots me a thumbs up before getting up and taking her place on stage, Natalie and a ginger haired girl who's name I think was Amber exchange lines 

"Hey Sandy would you like me to pierce your ears for you?" I sigh getting ready calm down I tell myself taking a breath I look at Luke who's smiling up at me. "Miss Goodie Two Shoes makes me want to barf," I start turning around in my chair prop 

"Look at me I'm Sandra Dee, lousy with virginity won't go to bed till I'm legally wed" I sing sticking my ring finger up in the air like I saw in the movie I can't I'm Sandra Dee" I jump around the stage singing "I don't drink" "no!" "Or smoke" "no!" "I don't wrap my hair," I pat down my hair and I get a glimpse of Mr. Meyer smiling at me "ey fongoul I'm Sandra Dee" 

I finish walking back to the chair and sitting down. "You make fun of me Riz?" Natalie asks wide eyed I pull the wig off my head and say "some people are so touchy." 

The music ends and Natalie hugs me tightly as I take my seat next to Luke again. "That was awesome," Luke whispers in my ear I pull away from him so we make eyes contact and smile at him "thanks" I blush "alright next up will scene 7."

Natalie's POV

"Alright we're at the "Hopelessly Devoted to You"....Natalie?  Get ready." I heard, as I stepped onto the stage, the bright spotlight shining on me.  I blinked, raising my hand to prevent my eyes from burning completely.  "Lights!  Turn it down a bit!"  It dimmed slightly, however was still bright.  

I heard the music begin to play in the background, as I began to do the steps, imagining the scene from the movie, before I opened my mouth, the words coming to me naturally.  "Guess mine's not the first heartbroken, guess my eye's are not the first to cry...."

I looked to the side to see Sky jumping up and down, smiling widely, mouthing "You're doing great".  I gave a small smile in response before I continued to sing.  Finally the song ended, and I ended in my spot marked by an x, before the lights went out, and I immediately got off the stage, as the next scene in the auto shop.  

Luke and Calum made their way onto the stage along with the other actors, while me and Sky watched backstage.   They just ran through the singing part, due to the fact we hadn't had any choreography practices yet.  Apparently we were going to make sure the songs were down before we go onto it.  

The boys did an amazing job and eventually came off once the scene was finished.  Finally play practice was over and we all walked out together.  "I think we all did a good job today." I said aloud and the others nodded.  "Nat, can I talk to you for a sec?" Cal whispered, grabbing my arm gently.  "Sure." I said stopping immediately.  

"So I was just wondering about our um....date.....uh I was wondering if it was ok if I took you to the boardwalk this Friday." Cal said before I smiled replying "Yeah....I like that idea." "Alright.  7?" "Sure thing. "

We began to walk again, to realize that Skyler and Luke had stopped so that we could catch up.  We ran up to them, as we began to walk home.

Friday came around quickly, so quickly, I didn't even know what I was wearing.  Well that's why Skyler is my best friend after all.

She was over at my house, as she threw my clothes from my dresser around, and over her shoulder.  "Ugh, there's that dress you should wear.  The blue one...." she muttered before I said "This one?"  She whipped around, and her mouth dropped when she saw it on me.

"That's perfect!" she exclaimed, giving me a thumbs up in approval with the summer dress and combat boots.  She then sat me down, as she quickly touched up my curly wavy hair mess, before finally giving me a touch of makeup.

Soon the doorbell rang and I immediately stood up and said "Crap it's 7.  I gotta go Sky, but thanks so so so much for the help."  I grabbed my over the shoulder bag and threw in my wallet and phone.  "Have fun!" she called as I ran down the stairs, and I got to the bottom, adjusting myself, before going and calmly opening the door.

I opened it, revealing Calum standing outside, hands in his jean pockets.  "Oh wow....hi Nat."  Cal said, gazing at me, looking dumbstruck.  I smiled and said "So should we go?"  Cal suddenly pulled himself together before saying "Yeah, let's go."

"See ya Skyler!" I yelled up the stairs, before shutting the door behind me, and walking out with Cal.  I just hoped Sky wouldn't cause too much of a mess in my room.
