"You're kidding?"
A smile brightened Zander's tanned face.
"Nope!"
He stated, popping the 'p'.
Excitement bubbled up in me and I squealed, lunging forward to hug him.
Laughing, he wrapped his arms around me and planted a kiss on the top of my head.
"Babe that's such good news!"
"Yeah."
Zander agreed, his voice rumbling against my ear which was pressed against his chest.
"The condition is I'm cleared to drive auto to begin with though and only for small distances at a time."
Auto?
I frowned and pulled back from his embrace.
"But your car is manual."
It was the main reason that I haven't 'borrowed' it yet while I rack up my driving hours.
A sparkle twinkled in my boyfriend's eyes and an adorable smile filled his face.
My heart literally felt like it exploded inside my chest, with joy at finally seeing him look so happy again.
"Would you believe it if I said Mum's willing to drive my car so I can use hers?"
No way?!
I couldn't help but laugh as I tried to picture Jade sitting in the driver's seat of Zander's robust 4x4 Hilux Ute.
"Are you serious?!"
Grinning, Zander nodded quickly.
Wow!
Wait.
"Your Mum can drive manual?"
I checked.
"Yes."
Zander agreed.
Wow!
I almost laughed as I pictured Zander driving his Mum's totally girlie Mazda, with the love heart exhaust tips.
But at the end of the day, a car was a car and I mana fed to hold in my amusement.
"So, I can take ya to work if ya want!"
Zander declared.
I blinked at him.
"You want to drive me to work at three thirty in the morning?"
He shrugged.
"Sure!"
He has to be crazy!
"You've officially lost your marbles, haven't you."
I sighed, dramatically flipping back into the couch cushions.
Zander's body quaked with laughter.
"No! But I'll probably be awake anyway! And I haven't driven in ages."
That was true.
It had been about two months since he's driven.
I used my abs to pull myself up into a sitting position and offered Zander a smile.
"Well thank you. A lift would be awesome."
He grinned back at me.
I'd just have to remember to let Lane know that I didn't need him to get me.
"You guys ready for some dinner?"
Jade asked as she came down the last of the stairs.
Dinner?
"Already?"
Zander asked, sounding surprised.
"Well it'll take around forty minutes yet."
Jade shrugged.
"What are we having?"
Zander questioned.
"Spag Bol."
His Mum declared and turned on her heel to head for the kitchen.
"So do you wanna stay here?"
I turned back to Zander at the sound of his question.
Another weeknight sleepover?
Awesome!
But realisation dawned on me.
Yes, I came here from hanging out with Kaylen and Luka, so I'm still wearing my uniform and I've got my school backpack.
But I don't have pyjamas or work clothes.
I pouted.
"I would, but I don't have anything with me."
Zander looked adorably confused, his expression and the 'innocence' in his eyes melting my heart.
"Well what will you need?"
Naww!
I couldn't help but smile.
"Pyjamas."
Now he rolled his eyes.
"Ya can just use a t-shirt and whatnot of mine."
Sleep in Zander's clothes?
My heart skipped a beat.
Admittedly, I wanted to do just that.
Imagining his t-shirts that were several sizes too big for me and some track pants or pyjama pants that I was well aware would swim on me, was strangely appealing.
But another thought occurred to me.
I pouted again.
"But then what am I meant to wear to work?"
It was Zander's turn to pout.
"A guy would think you're just finding excuses so you don't have to stay."
My heart clenched.
"No!"
I leaned forward and gently gripped his cheeks between my hands.
"That's not it!"
I insisted.
"I love having sleepovers with you. Especially because you can kinda snuggle me again now."
I couldn't help but smile.
Smiling too, he shook his head.
I leaned in to give his lips a quick, soft kiss.
"Get a room would ya!"
My heart jumped into my throat and a blush raged on my face.
I pulled quickly back from Zander who was glaring at somebody over my head.
"Fuck off!"
He ordered.
"No!"
With my cheeks still feeling far too warm, I twisted around to see Kade standing behind the lounge and smirking devilishly.
"Kade! Come see me!"
Jade's excited voice sounded slightly muffled from the direction of the kitchen.
"How did she know?!"
I asked, my eyes widening.
Zander and Kade both laughed.
Even Jace, who appeared out of the hallway, was laughing.
"When somebody's shit stirrin' it's usually always Kade!"
Jace declared.
Chuckling, Kade turned and headed for the kitchen.
"Hi Mama!"
The twenty-two year old declared as he walked away from us.
"What are you two doin' here?"
Zander asked his twenty-three year old brother.
Jace shrugged.
"Visiting. Mum pretty much told us we're havin' Dinner."
Oh.
"Well, I needa take Bails home to get some stuff."
I turned back to Zander, surprised.
When did we decide I was going to stay?
"Umm... are you planning to teleport? Coz last I knew you're not allowed to drive."
Jace pointed out.
"As of yesterday I can actually."
Zander returned, scooting himself to the edge of the lounge.
"But only auto and only short distances to begin with, so I gotta take Mum's car."
"Why don't ya just swap with me?"
Huh?
I looked at Jace curiously.
"Your car is auto?"
He grimaced slightly.
"Unfortunately."
"Seriously?"
Zander asked, seeming surprised.
He didn't know his brother had an auto?
Or he's surprised Jace would offer to swap?
Jace shrugged and slid his hands into his shorts pockets.
"Better than Mum drivin' your car ain't it?"
He once again smirked.
"And you her's!"
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Cheers!"
Zander still seemed surprised.
Jace just shrugged.
Naww!
These brother's can be so cute!
Suddenly Zander seemed to freeze.
"Actually..."
Jace eyed him curiously and I turned to look at him the same way.
"There's a good chance my battery is flat as fuck."
Zander all but whispered.
Jace shook his head.
"It started a few days ago."
Huh?
I looked at him in confusion.
"How... do you know this?"
Zander sounded just as confused.
"Coz we've been takin' turns kickin' her over."
Jace told him unashamedly.
Awe!
Though maybe Zander will be annoyed they've been going behind his back.
I looked questioningly towards Zander.
"Thanks!"
He declared.
"But how...?"
Jace shrugged.
"Mum located your keys. At least a couple times a week one of us has kicked her over when we've come to visit or whatever."
