Indigo was sat in front of her vanity. She could only stare at her reflection and wish she could see what everyone else did, a black gaping hole where a face should be, but instead she saw the markings and pale skin and the different eyes. The things that made her cursed.
Her door opened and she didn't need to look to see who it was. He had been coming daily for hours at a time.
"You doing okay?" Social Repose asked.
"As well as I can be." Indigo said monotone.
"It'll be okay. Just remember whatever happens I love you." He said placing a hand on her shoulder in comfort.
There was silence. It lasted a long time and rung in Social Reposes ears.
"Do you love me?" He asked.
"I married you didn't I?" Indigo responded shaking his hand off her.
"That's not what I asked. I asked do you love me. If this whole thing was just a joke to you, I don't think I could handle it." He said wanting to cry but not being able to. He would not show weakness.
Indigo pulled off her veil, letting her hair tumble out of control. Social Repose met her tear stained eyes "of course I love you. I love you more than I love myself but I can not love you anymore." She said a wave of tears falling again.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Social Repose asked wearily.
"You wouldn't understand you haven't seen what I have" she said
There was again silence. "What is that supposed to mean?" He asked, deadly calm.
Indigo felt a shiver run down her spine. He hadn't sounded like that since the day they met. "I don't think we are supposed to get a happy ending." Indigo's voice was meek.
Social Repose walked up to her and grabbed both her hands. "Indie, there is no such thing as happy endings. One of us will always die first, both of us will feel like this isn't worth spending time on, one may even have a wondering eye. Indigo the thing about fairy tales is that they end before the ending. What matters is that right here right now in this moment, we are in love and that we can end a war with that before it starts."
There was an intense moment of silence where Indigo looked everywhere but at Social Repose. But inevetably their eyes met.
Indigo was strong, powerful, and by all standards apart from her own she was beautiful, but she was not fearless. Before she met him she was. She had no fear of death, no fear of evil, or war, no man scared her. Now though, everything did. The thought of him dying, of him suffering, fighting, or being taken by another woman scared her to death. Which is why she couldn't love him anymore. His future was set in stone if she did not stop now. War would come to this land, he would fight in her name and win a thousand battles, but one battle he would wage against the fairfolk would end in his demise by her hand. Indigo would kill Social Repose for defending her honor against the unicorns, but the only reason he would is because of her love for him.
Indigo would later pay for what she did next, but in the moment- this was all the wanted. She leaned over and have Social Repose a soft kiss and heels his cheek. "I will love you until I die, always know that." She whispered and kissed him again.
"If I must love you from a distance to the end of time, I will do so willingly knowing those words are true." He said back.
Indigo had thought all her tears had dried up, but was proven wrong as one slipped down her cheek and on to Something Reposes hand. They say like that for the better part of an hour, sharing sweet words with one another.
Suddenly the dinner believe rang throughout the castle. Indigo and Social Repose walked out of her room, running into two disheveled princes. Not wanting to draw attention to themselves all four started silent as they descended into the dining hall.
The dining hall was a large room in the south west portion of the castle. It had large deep blue drapes hanging from the ceiling and bubbling about up there, a large black dragon scale table stretched across most of the room. Tonight there were gold plates and decor, in honor of the kingdoms colors.
Everyone took a seat in the scattered blue wooden chairs around the table. No one was close enough to touch, expecially the four lovers who were almost caught.
"Princess Indigo, Galec has heard the rumors that you enjoy the enchanted Forest, we did not know you were crowned queen of the fae. Our kingdom wished to give a gift that you may enjoy so that the woes of war may not ware to heavaly on your heart." The king of Galec said in his deep voice that echoed in the high ceilings of the room.
"That is very kind, you didn't have to do such a thing. It is an honor and a privilege to may your son." Indigo recited the line she had been rehearsing.
"I know that's a lie but appreciate the sentiment. Boys, bring in the gift." Boomed the king. Two squires dressed in all gold rolled in a large rectangle object covered by a deep blue cloth. "Well girl, go open it, it was not an easy gift to find." The king said, Galec was not known for its manners.
Indigo stood up and walked over to it, her heels clicking against the marble floor. She slowly reached her hand up and tore the cloth down. She gasped as the magic veil deteriorated from her head. Before her was a large tank that held a mermaid. She was blue and green and beautiful. She slithered up the tank poked her head out. "Queen Indigo of the fae, it is good to see you again sweet sister." It echoed in her head and indigo bowed.
"Forgive me, for I do not know you but I know that you refer to my soul, if I could I would gladly give it back." Indigo said leaving half the room confused and shocked.
"Silence child. You not what you speak, my sister Indigo have you her last soul to save you. She saw greatness in you and I do not doubt her. Do great my child." Indigo bowed her head.
"Please escort miss Teal to the pond in our garden, Social Repose and Luka. If the rest of you will excuse me, I must get changed." Indigo said not moving her head from the the mermaids eyes.
"It's about time I live up to my name." Indigo whispered and walked out the door to her Chambers.Listen guys, I don't have an excuse but like I'm back and I'm updating like yearly so that's a thing. Anyway let me know if y'all are still out there. Love you all thanks bye
