She put her earphones in and pressed play, slow guitar music played softly in her ears accompanied with someone singing about losing things. The song felt fitting to her as she looked out of the window and watched as they drove past the familiar sights of Sunset Valley and onto a world that was unknown to her. Even though her grandmother had assured her that Moonlight Falls was safer and would be more accepting of their kind, she didn't believe it.
Her stomach felt as though it was twisting itself in knots when the taxi driver said they were nearly there. The streets were deserted apart from a few stray animals she saw fighting over something she couldn't see. The taxi pulled up at a small one story house, the paint was peeling and the windows were so dirty you couldn't see though them. She clutched her suitcase and looked at her sister who looked a mix of nervous and disgusted. She was glaring at overgrown garden like she wanted to fix it there and then but then the rickety door opened with a squeak revealing a elderly women with white hair and piercing blue eyes that seemed to stare into her soul.
Motioning them inside the woman disappeared down her hallway. "Lexi..." Her sister said biting her nails nervously, clearly having second thoughts. Giving her a reassuring smile, Lexi opened the rusty gates as it scraped across the pavement. A crow flew out from the overgrowth causing Lexi to drop her suitcase on the cracked pavement. Even such a small thing made her want to cry, everything had changed so fast and now she was outside of this relatives house whom she had never met and that one incident made her feel like it was going to be a very bad day.
Biting back tears Lexi snatched the suitcase off the ground and speed walked up to the door. Looking back at her sister who was lingering by the gate, Lexi pointed to the faded house number that was falling off the wall as proof that this was the right house and slowly her sister trudged in after her carefully avoiding the weeds that were sticking out. The door shut behind them with a quiet click and the hall light turned on revealing a surprisingly spacious hallway which was very nicely decorated with family photos and paintings. "Hello?" Lexi called out, not wanting to barge into any of the rooms. They were quickly greeted by the elderly woman holding a tray with a teapot and cookies balanced on it.
She gave them a warm smile and made Lexi feel at home as it was a lot like her grandmothers, "Jamie, Lexi" she greeted with a soft voice, "Would you like some tea?"
