“ I swear, if that bitch tries to start shit with me this year, I won't hesitate to kick that Gucci covered ass. " Soph threatened as she slammed her locker closed.

“ Dont dwell on it, Soph. " I began walking towards my locker, with Soph following quickly behind.

“ So, Sophie. You and Dylan, eh? " I teased, changing the subject. She had mentioned that they had been flirting non-stop through every class they had together.

“ Yeah, he's so perfect, 'Ryah. " she sighed with a dreamy stare in her eyes as if she was imagining them on long walks on the beach and romantic shit like that.

“ Wow, Soph. I haven't actually seen you so lovestruck in a long time. " And it's true, Soph is actually very closed off at first, then she'll open up more. That's because her last boyfriend, Tristan, totally crushed her when some one sent her a picture of Tristan and another girl doing the nasty.

It's been three years since she's actually fallen for someone.

“ But enough about me, " Soph nudged me with her elbow, “ you and James? " She winked.

“ He attractive, yeah. " I said grabbing the cash I had for the caf food, “ but we have barely spoken. "

We continue on our way to the cafeteria.

“ He seems kind of secretive, like he's hiding something. " Soph thought aloud.

“ Yeah kind of. " I agreed. “ But it is his first day here, so I see why he would be shy. "

“ Keep it moving, Shrimplets, we don't have all day! " Soph shouted at the freshmans. She calles them Shrimplets simply because she is almost 5'10, towering over almost everyone in our grade and lower, except for some if the guys.

“ Soph, you need to chill out. You've been acting strange all day. " I was kind if concerned, Soph is usually such a kind person.

“ Just got back to school blues I guess, 'Ryah, I'm fine. " she sighed.

Twenty minutes later, we finally pay the cashier for our lunches and exit the cooking portion of the cafeteria. We scan the cafeteria for our friend, Skylar. Finally we spot her at the other end, near the windows. We scuttled on over and set our trays down.

“ Hey Sky, what's up? " Soph asked, sitting down next to her. I settle down across from them both.

“ Nothing much, just eating a sandwich. How was your guy's summer? " Sky asked.

As Soph rambled on and on about her summer, I let my eyes scan across the caf, watching all the freshmans walk in circles, trying to choose the right spot to sit, as if it was that curtail as to where you sit. This isn't High School Musical, guys.

I took a double take when I saw Dyaln and James walking closer us. I kicked Soph under the table.

“ Ow, Maryah! What the Hell?! " She scowled. She quickly turned her head to where I was looking, “ Oh. Hi, Dylan. " she batted her eyelashes at him. Blah, gag me with a spoon.

“ Hey, Soph, " He smiled, “ is there any room for us two? "

“ Sure, pull up a seat. " I gestured to the table.

Dylan sat down right next to Soph, making her face go red from the closeness. James sat across from him, to my direct left.

“ How's it going, Maryah? " James turned his face towards me, making our faces that much closer.

I gulped, “ Fine thanks, and yourself? "

“ Just peachy. " He turned back to his salad, shoveling a fork full into his mouth.

“ Oh, yeah. Dylan, James, this is Skylar. We've been friends for quite some time. " I gestured to her. She smiled sweetly, waving slightly.

“ Nice to meet you, Skylar. I'm James, that's Dylan. "

“ The pleasure is all mine. " She smiled, looking back and forth between the two boys. She checked her cell phone, “ I better get going, I have to talk to Mrs. Alkon. I'll see you around! " She got up and walked off towards the doors.

Lunch went on. Sophie and Dylan where chatting about mindless things with James listening casually. I decided to take out my homework, still unsure why teachers give students homework on the first day. Do they want us to hate them?

I flip open my binder, finding the page almost immediately. I reached to grab my pencil, but I wasn't quick enough. It rolled past me, and on to the floor. I went to go reach for it, but my hand brushed against someone elses. I looked up and was met with warm chestnut eyes. He picked up the pencil, grabbed my hand, palm up. He placed the pencil in my hand and curled my fingers around in.

“ You dropped this. " His eyes burning into mine. He quickly let go if my hand, and returned to his lunch.

I couldn't help but smile slightly and try to focus on the English assignment.

I couldnt help but sneak a glance back at him once more.
