The day she stopped being a child~ A young child dreaming, that is how this story starts. Staring up into the endless blue pure sky, wispy white clouds drifted aimlessly. White birds flew above, calling to each-other in a language only they could understand. Laughing carried into the young boys ears. A pair of perfectly polished white shoes appeared beside him. He looked up at a young girl. Wearing a pink floral dress, laced at the hem with thin purple material. She had long gold spun hair, framing her delicate face with ringlets. But out of everything her baby blue eyes stood out the most. She started at him, as though trying to read deep into his thoughts. They had an unusually strong connection. And she thought of him as her own brother, although she would never tell him that. She reached her small, pale hand out to him and smiled. "Come play with us Will. We're starting a new game now." "I can't." He replied. "Well why not?" The girl asked huffing and crossing her arms. "I'm not allowed to. I can't play with the other children." "I'm sure they won't mind." she said confused. "No, your father doesn't like it when I'm with the other children. He said I have to stay away. I'm not supposed to play games." "I'll ask him if you can join in. I'm sure if I asked really nicely-" "No please don't Holly." He interrupted. She sighed heavily, not understanding why he was being so difficult. "Well I'll just have to sit with you then." "Thanks." Will was about to say something else to her when his thoughts were cut off quickly with a loud bang. The ground shook and they were both shaken by the jolt. A momentary silence passed followed by screams. A ringing filled his ears. There was only one thing that was going through his mind, he needed to get Holly out of here. "No.. We have to go!" He jumped up and grabbed her hand. His head spinning from all that was going on. "Now!" "But what about my friends?" She exclaimed. "They'll be fine, we need to go!" He lied, they were not his to take care of. But she was. Holly ignored him and pulled away her hand. She ran back over to the hills where her friends and had been playing. Shutting out Williams calls of protest. What she saw over those hills, was Holly's first proper encounter with the resistance. Holes covered the ground, the pretty lilac flowers that had grew there were gone. Smoke hung in the air- as thick as the fog she sometimes had to navigate through in the cold, winter mornings to get to school. But this was no fog, the smell of burnt wood made her cough horribly, she attempted to pull air into her lungs but was finding great difficulty doing so. She screamed and dropped to her knees when she finally made out what was happening through the smoke. This was a day she would never forget, the day she lost her childhood friends, the day the resistance took away her best friend. The day she stopped being a child. The girl ran away into the forest leaving Will behind. Holly didn't dare look back in fear that she was being chased. But no one saw her, she regretted it as soon as she reached the safety of the trees, but her fear is solely what drove her. She had lost William forever, and she often awoke during the night, still screaming out his name. If only she could go back and have done things differently. She might have been able to live a somewhat normal life. *This is my first post so I hope you like it- I'll try to post more when I can, thanks for reading! :) *
