I stood and walked up to the judge, at first giving my back to the curious crowd that came here to listen in. "My client has been accused of the murder of his ex wife." I paused and turned around to look at the man I was defending then continued even louder. "Although he is innocent, until proven guilty," I continued.

I didn't know how much convincing I sounded but from the surprised gasp of the crowd I thought I was on the right path.

"This man." I made another pause as I pointed in the direction of Robert, my client. If there was something I learned during my career a lawyer was that creating suspense was always a good way to gain people's attention. "This man was accused only on the basis of circumstantial evidence and my job is to show you all that he is not responsible for the crime he has been accused of." Once I was finished with my speech I turned again towards the judge and after bowing my head slightly to thank him for the time I walked back to my seat.

"You've been amazing, Helen." Robert whispered to me, resting his hand gently over my own hand making me feel a chill running down my spine.

"You know, since we've became friends this is the first time you take me to the cinema..." Helen pointed out.

Robert and Helen were walking along the empty street illuminated thanks to some lamppost scattered here and there when suddenly Robert caught her hand.

"Well, can't I make something nice once in a while?" Robert grinned as the two young people stopped under one of old fashioned shaped lamppost and clasping both the girl's hands in his.

"Of course, I was just-" Helen was cut off by Robert's lips on hers. His hands let go of hers and found their way around her waist while Helen wrapped her own arms around Robert's neck.

"Surprised..." Helen whispered as soon as they pulled away from the kiss before she burst into laughers of joy.

The Prosecution Lawyer rose from his position and stood straight, saying, "I call Robert Donovan to the stands."

I turned to face him and nodded my head, we were both ready for this.

Robert stood straight as well and walked to bar where he swore on the Bible to say the truth before he whole court.

"Mister Donovan. Is it true that the night of the murder of Clara Stewart you were in town?"

"I already said I was. Many time." Robert replied with a smug smile. "But I left the town soon after I arrived."

"Right and what made you spend almost an entire afternoon in car to come here and leave the town few hours later your arrival?"

"I came here to talk with Clara about our children. But once I reached her home she wasn't inside and since I couldn't find her anywhere else I decided to leave."

"Which hour was it?"

"Uh, around midnight."

"But Miss Stewart died around 10.00-11.00pm. This places you in town at the time of the murder."

"I didn't kill her. I didn't have any reasons to." Robert looked down at his hands.

"You wanted the custody of your children, Mister Donovan?"

"Yes, I did. But I can't see-" Robert was cut off by the lawyer that was questioning him.

"This is a motive to kill someone... "

I stood from my seat, "I object! This is a mere supposition, there aren't evidence that my si- that Miss Stewart was against giving the custody to Mister Donovan!" I exclaimed, I was aware it was a desperate attempt but I was successful, "sustained." The judge replied.
