First off, I need to give a huge shout out to the group chat for encouraging me to write this book, and giving me a lot of the ideas that's going to happen in here. :D Thanks, my Dream Shovelers.
Chapter 1
I heard a muffled voice calling my name, but I ignored it and placed the pillow over my head. It was way too early to wake up right now.
Well, I didn't know what time it was, but I was assuming it was too early to wake up.
"Jerome, I swear, if you don't get out of bed right now, I will get water and pour it on you," the voice said, and it took me a while to recognize the voice. When I did, I took the pillow off of my head and looked over.
I was confused.
"Mom?" I asked.
"No, it's your dad," she said sarcastically. "It's almost noon, Jerome. You have to get out of bed. Chanel and Mae are going to be here soon."
She then left and closed the door behind her. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, still feeling very confused. Was I hallucinating? Or am I dreaming?
I looked to my left, only to see the spot beside me empty. Then I looked around the room. My old bedroom; the one I had when I was living in Lachine. With my parents.
Seriously, what was going on? This felt way too real to be a dream.
I got out of bed before heading to my washroom, then splashing some warm water on my face. If this was a dream, then that wasn't waking me up.
I just stared at myself in the mirror, trying to figure out exactly what was going on. Then it hit me.
I swear, if this was some 'going back in time to learn you should be careful what you wish for crap', I was going to have to hit something or someone with my shovel.
I did wish that things would go to back the way they were before I came out to my parents, and if this was my wish....
I sighed, grabbing a cloth and patting my face dry before heading back into my bedroom to get changed. After I was changed, I grabbed my phone from my nightstand and looked at the date.
Five years ago.
I was no longer twenty-two. I was seventeen.
And it was the day Mae moved back to Lachine from Miami.
"Jerome!" Mom called. "Chanel and Mae are here! Come downstairs!"
I put my phone in my back pocket before heading down the stairs where my parents, Chanel, and Mae were. As soon as Mae saw me, she smiled and hurried over to me, wrapping her arms tightly around me. "I missed you," she said.
"I missed you too," I said, hugging her back only to play the part, because I literally just saw her yesterday.
"Why don't you two go out somewhere to catch up?" Mom asked.
"Ooh, Tim Hortons," Mae said. "I really miss it. I haven't had any since we moved away from here."
I agreed to going, because I really needed to get out of this house. The last time I was here was when I came out to my parents, and we got into a huge argument and they kicked me out of the house.
After I got my wallet, Mae and I left and walked to the Tim Hortons closest to my house. After getting our orders, we sat down at a table and I pulled out my phone to look at the time and date.
