I laid on the couch staring at the static that took over the TV screen while I waited. I was on edge, I fiddled with my fingers and kept shooting hopeful glances at the door when ever I heard something on the other side. I had texted him ten times, called him eight and all of them went unanswered. This only made me more afraid and nervous. There's no telling what could have happened out there, what if he was in trouble? In the hospital? What if he was shot? Oh my God! What if he's-?! No I can't think like that! He's going to be okay, he going to walk through that door and-
The door creaked open and I quickly stood up, I leaned to the side to see around the the cracked door and saw him smile.
"Wassup, little girl?" He pushed the door open and came inside.
I ran to him and hugged him tight, his hand went around me and he held me close. Hell, I damn near cried but I didn't want him to tease me for it afterwards. "What's wrong with you?" Tay asked.
I pushed away from him and frowned, "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with me!" I punched him the chest and he stumbled backwards in shock.
He looked at me and smirked, "Damn you love me then you hate me!"
He wasn't bout to distract me with those lame ass remarks, "I called you and texted! Why didn't you answer?!" I yelled.
"I was busy." Tay shrugged and started walking to his room.
"Busy!" I followed him down the small hallway of our apartment to his room.
He took off his hat and handed it to me, "Can you hang that on the wall for me? Thanks." He said then laid on his bed.
Son of a bitch! I gripped the hat tightly in my hands before throwing it at his head.
He shot up and started mugging me, "What the fuck is your problem Tia!?"
"My problem is my dumbass big brother doesn't know how to answer the fucking phone!" I yelled.
He rolled his eyes, "Chill the fuck out! I told you I was busy!"
"I don't give a fuck! I thought something happened to you!" I was so pissed I felt my hands trembling and my leg bounced up and down. He sat there mugging me like I was in the wrong, anything could've happened to him and I wouldn't have known anything.
"Kid, ain't nothing going to happen to me! So chill!" Tay stressed before falling back into his mattress.
I rolled my eyes at him, "Boy you ain't bullet proof."
He just groaned and pulled his pillow over his head, "Why the fuck you still in my room?" He groaned.
"Why the fuck you still in the streets!" I shot back.
Tay sat up again and frustratedly rubbed the back of his neck, "Look I ain't gonna be out there forever! But right now those streets the only thing putting food in your mouth and paying the rent!"
"You can get a job Tay! You smart! The way you going now you gonna end up in jail or dead!" I screamed, tears ran down my cheeks and I felt my eyes getting puffy. Damn it I couldn't hold back anymore, I crumbled to the ground in a sob, he was definitely going to tease me now. Tay watched me with wide eyes and he started to stand up. "I can't loose you too! Not to the streets!" I cried, Tay walked over and wrapped his arms around me.
I hugged him tight and he sat his chin on top of my head, "We're going to make it, you and me!" He whispered.
"Tay we ain't going nowhere when you steady going out there getting deeper!" I cried.
I felt him shake and heard him sniff deeply, like he was trying not to cry, he pulled me in closer and held me tighter, "I'll get out just give me time."
I shook my head, "Man you lying how I know you telling the truth!"
He laughed slightly, "I ain't like Momma and Daddy."
I pushed him away, "Prove it then, Tay!" I screamed.
He rubbed his beard and thought, I shakily waited for his answer, he smiled and put his arm over my shoulder, "Tomorrow when you get out of school me and you are going to the tattoo shop. We are going to get a feather on our forearms and next to that no matter what written at the side."
"Why a feather?" I asked.
He smiled and brought me into a side hug, then he said, "Because all birds need wings to fly."
