I knock on the towering oak door, and it gives a satisfying noise. I hear rustling from inside the mansion, and laughter emitting from the guests that had arrived before me. The doorknob turns and I am greeted with the smiling face of Ms.Lester, and she is quick to embrace me. "Daniel! I'm so happy you came! Phil is in the game room with his cousins, if you want to join him. You could always say hello to everyone, but I get it if you just want to see Phillip." I nod and grin back at her, taking in the sight before me. The ceilings towered over me, and the floors were black marble. There were pillars throughout the grand hallway, that opened into the living room. My breath hitches when Phil practically tackles me. "DAN!!!" I chuckle and turn to my best friend who was currently wrapped around my stomach. "Oh my god Phil... hi. Um, by the way I feel like I'm literally in a castle. You lived here? And LEFT?" Phil nods. "You have no idea how confusing living here was, it was a grand decision. Plus I moved in with you silly! This place does have some awesome hiding places and cool secret rooms, but I'll show you later. BUT right now there's a Super Smash Bro's tournament and I'm in the lead! Also everyone is waiting on me, so come!" He grabs my by the wrists and drags me into the room to the left of the entrance, revealing yet another breathtaking room. There were gaming systems everywhere, and two whole shelves of games of all different sorts. I sit where Phil instructs and see at least 11 children throughout the room glaring at me. "Did we really have to pause for your boyfriend?" A kid with a snotty voice questions Phil. My cheeks go pink, but Phil just laughs. "Oh shut it Jeremy, he's my best friend! I can't ignore him!" I chuckle along though I feel the tension radiating through the room like poison gas. Phil grabs the remote from the couch and unpauses the current game. He's playing as jigglypuff, which for Phil was fitting. He's beating the crap out of Samus, and then finally pounds him off the stage with one final hit. The winner screen pops up, and Phil cheers at his victory and the child named Jeremy pouts. "Oh cheer up J, I've had tons of experience. You're super good." The kid cheers up, then his eyes fixate on me. "I wanna battle you. One on one with your friend, Phil." Phil looks to me with an open smile and shrugs. I nod, and stick my hand out for Phil's controller. He hands it to me happily, then sits back, slightly leaning against me. I move it back to the character choice screen, and pick Lucario. Not the strongest character, but the one I could use best. Jeremy picks Little Mac, the character I dread fighting. "Great." I grumble under my breath. I stretch my hands out and press "+" to go to the stage pick and hit random. The start screen to the stage shows up, and it's on some obscure pikmin stage I'd never visited. Great. It starts, and I strike up conversation. "So, you guys excited for Christmas tomorrow?" Jeremy sits up straight and almost looks at me. "Uh, duh, who isn't?" I nod and shrug. "Dunno, just wondering." I say as I hit Little Mac with a large power ball. It knocks him off the stage, and he makes an annoyed noise. He respawns, and runs up and tries to punch me, but I block him and counter, knocking him back to the edge of the stage. His character stumbles, and I hit him repeatedly with force palm, and he falls of the stage. The winning screen shows up, and he tosses his controller. "Whatever. You're still a loser." I nod and look to Phil who's rolling his eyes. "You could've taken it easier Dan." I smile a snarky smirk. "But I was." He gives me an unamused look and stands up. Every kid looks to him, and he stretches. "Hey guys, I wanna go show Dan around for a bit. Sound good?" They nod and return their gaze to the screen. Phil pulls me up and leads me out the door, walking down the hall going left to a staircase that leads down. "This is the pool room. It's really fun if you wanna mess around with balls." I snicker and Phil face palms. "You know what I mean you five-year-old." I nod and give Phil a dirty look. "I would love to play with balls." His face goes a dark pink shade and he glares at me. "You're such a... dumb... person. Anyway, do you wanna do this, or see the secret place I mentioned?" I smile. "You know, I would never pass an offer to play with balls, but just this once, I'll pass to go to a super fun secret place..." He laughs unable to give my jokes false scolding. He grabs my wrist again, and leads me further through the room to a Victorian looking bookcase. He pulls out a bright red book from the duller coloured books, and suddenly the bookcase turns to open up a gigantic room, a ballroom. I almost faint at the enormity of the room, then Phil pulls me along. "Cool right? I used to come in here as a kid and dance with myself. I would literally slow dance, alone." I take another look at the room and notice the ceiling was shorter, not much taller than me. "Phil, were you really that big of a loner?" He nods. "Yep. But so were you! Like you say constantly you were very lonely as a child and adolescent." I agree quietly and keep following him. He leads me to the middle of the room, and grabs my hip. I tilt my head confused, and he rolls his eyes. "Do you wanna dance Dan?" I'm a bit taken aback, and he looks into my eyes. He starts to move, and I grab his shoulders, not knowing what to do. "Dan? What's wrong?" He looks to my feet and notices that I'm actually trying. "Oh. Does somebody not know how to dance?" I look away and huff. "N-no, I totally... not at all." He looks at me with disbelief, and scoffs. "Well I'm gonna teach you. And then, we dance." He gropes my hips and starts to move again. "Literally just step along with where I go, but limit steps." He moves to the side, then forward, then to the side, and back. He repeats it over and over again, and I still don't understand why I'm doing this. I look into his icy blue eyes and melt under their stare. Everything feels so intense, his hands holding my hips, his smooth movements. I feel myself becoming accustomed to the movements and starting to follow along, until we both are in sync. "You're doing so good! Good job Dan!" The voice he had used with Jeremy comes out, and I feel like a small child. Phil looks up, and his faces color whitens (somehow) then turns red. I become confused and look up too, and what I see makes my body go warm. It's a little green and red bushel, or better known as mistletoe. And you know what happens under mistletoe? Yeah, I think you can guess. Phil looks back at me, still holding me, with a confused and bashful face. I look at him and take in his facial features, and I feel myself mouth the word "oh". "Huh... um... Dan? I have something a bit important to tell you..." he looks away for a moment, then returns his eyes to mine. "Well... I know this is weird to ask... but in my family..." he sighs very loud, and clears his throat. "This is a very big tradition. So as you can see... if I don't do this it's like going against my heritage. Like... ok so the tale in our family is that since our ancestors first met under a mistletoe, and that's how our family, the Lesters was made. So not doing this is close to sin. Do you... do you understand? I know this is weird to ask but..." He moves his hand in a swirling gesture, and I swallow. "Well... I g-guess so. I don't want t-to go against your family. So uh..." I look nervously into his eyes, and his grip on my waists increases yet again. He leans forward, and I pull his shoulders forward so our lips connect. It feels really good, but I feel so strange doing it. Like stealing cereal from Phil. It was payback, but I feel bad every time. He pulls me closer, the front of our bodies fully against each other, and I just let it happen. Phil's jumper is so soft in my hands, and I just cherish every bit of what Is happening. From the softness of Phil's lips, to the feeling burrowed deep in my stomach, plus the butterflies on top of that. It feels so amazing, until he pulls away, and I hear gasps behind me, and Phil's face becomes the literal shade of paper. "H-hello mum... hello f-family. If you haven't met him yet, this is Dan. D-dan Howell... my best friend..." I wave without turning and the quietness makes it hard to breathe, it consumes me. I tense up, and Phil still doesn't let go of my hips. When I think I will literally melt into the cracks of the expensive flooring below me, I hear whoops, and cheering? I turn around quickly and random people start to wrap their arms around me, and I turn and see Phil confused as ever accepting hugs. I turn back and see Phil's mum looking into my eyes and smiling from ear to ear. "Thank you Daniel. I thought he'd never hook up with someone! Thank the lord for it being someone like you!" She kisses me on the cheek and moves to Phil. I stand awkwardly as Phil's family gathers together staring at me and Phil next to each other like attractions at a zoo. I definitely felt caged. But also... happy? I look to Phil, and my heart flutters, like a bird trying to escape a cage. Was this right? Phil was my friend literally two minutes ago, and now his family is cheering us on for kissing totally platonically for the sake of Phil's family. But was it platonic? I think back to what had just happened, and realise, it was not platonic at all. Platonic kisses would be short, and both of the people would be disgusted after, but I wasn't, and Phil seemed okay with it, and was groping my ass during. Phil grabs my hand and looks to me. He nods, and I nod back, unbeknownst to what he was going to do. He smiles, and looks to his family, confidence oozing out of him. "Well, I guess I should make it official... me and Dan..." he looks to me and I understand. Relief covers me like a blanket as I feel Phil's acceptance. "We're dating!" Me and him say in unison. I think about what the hell we'd say on our channels, or how we'd act on Dan and Phil GAMES but I could care less. His family accepted me, Phil wants to be with me, and I have all night to enjoy now, with Phil.
