Cafe

It was a bright sunny Monday morning. My heels clicked on top of the hard surface of the cobblestone sidewalk. I take my usual route to a quaint cafe. My dark hair piled into a bun, making my cheekbones stand out against my porcelain skin. My hazel eyes glinted in the sunlight as I made my way. My usual uniform consisting of a red dress and a white apron adorned my figure.

I cross the busy street to make it to the cafe five minutes before opening. I dig in the pocket on my apron taking out the set of keys. I take the gold one and fit it into the lock. I open the door my ruby lips pulled up into a smile. I turn on the lights to illuminate the area. Turquoise walls greet me as pieces of local art hang on the walls.

I walk behind the glass counter getting my things set up. I hear the bell chime and I turn around to greet the customer. I am met by a man taller than me by a couple of inches. His brown hair slicked back like a models would be. His eyes  like dark chocolate hold a glint of mischief. His suit a navy blue made his seemingly pale skin tan. "Hello," I he greets taking in my features.

"Hello," I greet back, my hands folded in front of me. "Welcome to Shi's Coffee. What can I get ya?" I ask my voice lilting as he looks over the chalkboard menu.

His face twists as his eyebrows scrunch up in concentration. "Ah, yes. I would love to have a black coffee with a hint of hazel nut and a butter croissant." He says looking into my eyes deeply. Smiling a mischievous smile like he knew something I didn't.

I place in his order. "Okay, that will be five pounds," I say opening the register my cherry red fingernails pressing the keys swiftly. I look up and I take his five pound note. "I will have that out to you in a minute. Oh, name?" I ask politely.

"Richard," He replies his voice like a fine smooth blend of coffee. "Yours?"

   "Katrina," I reply softly.

"Beautiful name," he says a blush making its way up my cheeks.

I smile and turn around grabbing a cup and pouring in the dark coffee that reminded me of his eyes. I put in two shots of hazel nut flavoring and I put a lid on it. In a black sharpie I nearly write his name on it. The bottom of my 'R' swirling out as it tends to do. I grab the croissant out of it's glass chamber and put it into a white bag. I place the order on the counter for him to take.

Our hands brush and my breath catches in my throat. I look up a lock of my hair falling in front of my eye. He meets my eyes and smiles. "Thank you, love," His voice low and husky. "I will see you tomorrow." He says and slips a five pound note into the tip jar. My face lights up like a red beacon as a traitorous blush creeps up my face. My throat felt dry and parched and as soon as he was there, he was gone. The bell chiming as he walked across the street his suit looking amazing.

The only evidence to his existence a neatly folded up napkin on the marble counter. I grab it with shaking fingers and slowly open it up. Not wanting to damage the neatness of the scrawl and creases. I see his name and number on the napkin and my heart leaps. I bite my lip wanting to squeal but stopped as the next customer makes their way into the shop.

I put the folded up napkin into the pocket of my apron. Feeling it every few seconds to make sure it was real. Every time my fingers brushed it my smile got brighter and my steps got lighter.
