I'm back! Here is more Lela :) Its a bit slow but i have another chapter waiting to be typed.
=============================================================
My eyes were stinging and I could feel the headache to come. I took my key from my purse and aimed it toward the lock. It took at least seven times before I actually got it in and I wasn’t even the drunk one!
Speaking of the drunk blonde I was bringing home tonight, she was a little silent. “Allison? You all right back there?” I pushed open the door and stumbled in.
“Not really.” She slurred out as she zombie walked into my living room. Allison didn’t drink. I do occasionally but Allison has never picked up a bottle in her life….except when she’s freaking out ‘cause she’s being chased by the mob.
I shut the door behind us. She hit the couch face first and all I could see was her mess of blonde curls.
I sighed. The whole night had been filled with statements and telling the cops where we had been chased. I think they noticed Allison’s tipsiness but overlooked it because of what had happened.
Officer Chex thinks the men that chased us are part of the gang that’s been operating around the state. They do everything apparently; drugs, murder, money scams, sex trafficking and a lot more. What Reverend Silk had to do with these guys no one had any idea.
I walked into the kitchen and filled a glass with water as I continued to think. The man said he saw me, that’s why there are currently officers outside my house just in case they know where I live. They’ll also be following me until they don’t need to anymore. Or at least that’s what they told me.
Matt doesn’t know and I don’t really want to tell him. It would only cause trouble.
“Allison get up.” I placed the cup in front of her as she turned her head to look at me.
“Why?”
“You need to drink this before you sleep. Get some water in your system or else you’ll feel like hell in the morning.”
She groaned and sat up. “Fine.” She took the cup from me and gulped down as much as she could. “Can we sleep in your bed?”
I gave a small smile. “Yeah just don’t expect me to carry you.” She gave a small smile but the tears started to show in her eyes again. I took her hand and walked her up the stairs as she wept into my shoulder.
I was never good at comforting people. It always made me feel awkward. But maybe that’s because I didn’t care until now.
She leaned on me to keep from tripping. I pushed open my door and she collapsed on the bed. I took off her shoes and covered her with my blanket. She was already snoring.
I walked into my bathroom and looked at myself.
I looked tired. I was tired. So tired my brain couldn’t argue with itself, well almost. In the back of my mind my head was still swirling with thoughts.
Who were those men? Will they find me? Will they find my mom? Should I tell Matt? How is Reverend Silk? What does he have to do with any of this?
I feel like my life is a mess and every place I step something else breaks under my foot. It was so tiring trying to hold it all together. I needed to lose some of these weights on my shoulder. I never had this problem before. I was never stressed, I always had time, and I never worried. But now……..how does being a good human person make things……bad?
I put my hair in a tight pony tail and turned on the cold water. I took some in my hands and washed my face repeatedly until my cheeks were stinging from the freezing water. But I felt better.
I grabbed a towel and dried my face. Then I left the bathroom and undressed and placed on my soft fuzzy shorts and T-shirt. It was kinda hot too so I turned up the air conditioning.
Allison had by now snuggled to a side of the bed. I climbed in next to her and slid under the blanket.
I had a dream for the first time since the drunken time in the tent. But this time it wasn’t a memory. It was a nightmare.
I was running down a street I had never seen before. But I wasn’t running really fast. I felt like I was in jello or the world had been put on slow motion. Behind me a car with bright head lights chased me.
As I ran I saw Matt, Mike, Allison, my mom and different people screaming at me on the sidewalk. But as they did they would be shot down and fall to the ground. I didn’t run toward them. I just started to cry and run faster. I was aware that there blood ran down the sidewalk and into the street. My feet felt gooey and cold as I stepped in it. The heat from the headlights shined on my back as the car got closer. It was going to hit me. I knew it was. I tried to run fast but I knew I was tired. I was scared.
I closed my eyes as the car sped up. It was going to run me over like an unlucky squirrel.
But it didn’t. I woke up before it could. This time I was ok with the phone waking me up.
My eyes were still partly closed and my body tired. My head hurt but I’d slept off the headache by now.
I grabbed my phone off the charger and held it up to my ear. I was still laying on the bed and I couldn’t find the strength or want to get up.
“Is this Lela White?” It was a deep man’s voice.
“Yes.” I tried to sound as awake as possible.
“Mss. White I called to tell you that your car is fixed and you can pick it up today if you would like.”
I smiled. I was finally getting my baby back! I wouldn’t have to ask for a ride or walk to places now. “Ok what time?”
“You can come from any time from 9-8.”
“Ok thank you.” I began to sit up and glanced at Allison. She was still completely out. “I’ll be there around two.”
“No problem and your welcome.” I put the phone down and yawned. That’s when I realized I was covered in sweat. The phone call had temporarily distracted me from the nightmare. Well I wasn’t going back to sleep now I miles well take a shower so I don’t stink when I get my car back.
Oh my god! I’m getting my car back!
