Hanna's POV:
"Mom, I'm gonna sleep over at Aria's tonight, okay?" I call as I head toward the door, knowing perfectly well that Aria won't be the one I'll be staying with.
"Sure, just be back tomorrow because we're helping Ted and Sean get settled." I roll my eyes even though my mom can't see me.
"Of course. Bye." I say, not waiting for a reply before slamming the door closed. At least I can see Caleb now. At least I can be safe in his arms, eating gummy bears and convincing him to watch The Notebook with me. At least I can be happy.
For a short while, but its better than nothing.
I start walking as I dial Aria's number into my phone.
"Hey Han, what's up?" She asks me in a conversational tone. I wonder briefly if I really should tell her whats up. For instance, that my mom is engaged to my ex boyfriend's dad, or maybe that I have to share a room with my ex boyfriend. Or perhaps that I don't know how to tell my boyfriend because he is definitely the jealous, over protective type. But I decide against it.
"I'm using you as my alibi tonight, I'm sleeping over at Caleb's." I'm glad Aria can't see me right now, because I can't help the grin that just spread across my face, no matter what just happened only minutes before.
"Alright, just don't get pregnant tonight." She replies and I laugh.
"Goodbye, Aria. I make no promises." Aria laughs, followed by the both of us hanging up and before I know it, I'm in front of Caleb's apartment.
Knocking on the door, I allow myself to genuinely smile. In only a few minute's time I'll be cuddled up to Caleb, happy.
Little did I know that that was not about to happen.
Silence. Not even shuffling. After a few moments, and another knock, I finally hear some shuffling followed by the door opening to reveal a teary-eyed Caleb.
"Caleb?" I ask him, genuinely concerned for my boyfriend. Yeah, I like the sound of that. Boyfriend. Hanna. Focus. "What's wrong?"
"How could you?" He exclaims angrily and I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"How could I what?" I ask.
"Don't act so innocent!" He exclaims, walking to his couch, and I quickly follow, locking his door behind me. "It makes me want to believe you."
"I'm not 'acting'." I tell him, still confused. "I seriously have no idea as to whats going on."
He shakes his head in what seems to be disappointment as he puts his head in his arms. I watch helplessly as the tears start to flow and decide that comforting him is top priority right now. I walk over and hug him, but he pushes me away roughly. Not roughly enough to hurt me, of course, but not as gently as he usually would.
"Stop." He says and I am taken aback. "Just tell me. Was this your way of getting me back? For what happened with Jenna?"
"Okay, seriously Caleb I have no idea whats going on here."
"What's going on here is you're flirting with your ex. In your room. With him sitting on your bed. That's whats going on." I take a moment to piece things together. Yeah, I was just in my room with my ex boyfriend, but I made it pretty clear that I wasn't interested. And believe me, if I had the choice, Sean wouldn't even come near me ever again. Yeah, he sat on my bed, but I clearly told him to get off.
Wait a minute, how does Caleb even know any of this?
"Caleb... What..."
"Was it revenge?" He asks.
"No! Caleb, how did you find out?" I ask, before realizing just how wrong that came out.
"An unknown number sent me a video." My eyes widen in realization.
"Was it signed -A?" I ask him cautiously.
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"I just... I do. Anyways, Caleb, what do you know?" I ask.
"It doesn't matter. It's over, go be with Sean. I could never compete with him, anyway." He says and I can practically feel my heart shatter.
"Caleb... Why would I be with Sean? I love you." I tell him honestly.
Caleb takes his phone out of his pocket and hands it to me. "Then explain this." He says as I look down at the screen.
It's a video of me and Sean from earlier tonight. My back is towards the camera and Sean, who is sitting on my bed, is perfectly clear.
"So you want me to be a gentleman?" He asks, and raises his eyebrow suggestively. A wave of déjà vu washes over me.
"Yes." I hear myself reply and the screen goes black.
"If you're not seeing him, why was he in your room? On your bed?" Caleb asks and my heart breaks at the pain in his voice.
"Caleb, can you just calm down and I'll explain what happened tonight?" I ask him, desperately seeking time. I, myself, don't even know what happened tonight. Caleb takes a deep breath and nods, silently urging me to continue. "Sean's dad, pastor Ted," I say. "Got engaged to my mom. They're moving in. They're redoing the guest room for Sean and meanwhile we have to share a room." I blurt out, and am faced with a very confused Caleb.
For a moment we just sit there in silence, both processing the words I had just said. After the moment passes, I allow myself to look into Caleb's eyes, which are filled with disbelief.
"At least make up a lie that's believable." He says and its as if all the oxygen was stolen from me. Caleb thinks I'm lying. Hell, if I didn't know better, I would think I'm lying. But it really doesn't look like there's anything I could do to make Caleb believe me.
Will he ever process whats going on?

Next Chapter:
"Hanna, no." He said, raising his voice slightly, so that she knew he was serious, but not to the point where he scared her. No matter how angry he was, he could never even think about hurting Hanna physically. It just wasn't an option. "Just leave. Get out."
His words were clear and sharp. Sharp like a knife to her throat. But her emotional pain was so much worse than any pain a knife could ever cause.
"But-" She tried again, desperate. He needed to let her finish. She didn't know hat she would say, but she would say something. Anything.
