This story was written in honor of my writer's block, because A) It is the WORST. I mean not that I write A LOT, but when I start writing a fanfic, I'll just stop in the middle of the first sentence, then re-type the whole thing. I don't know, do you guys do that? and B) I just felt like writing about writer's block to get out of my writer's block, because the current story I am working on is just...hard to finish. So this little product of my imagination is just to, I don't know, help me out? Help you out, maybe? BTW, there may be a tiny dose of NaLi, but I swear it's only a little bit! Disclaimer: Do I look like Hiro Mashima to you? (Don't answer that). I do not own Fairy Tail.
(BTW, this story is set in present day America. Just to avoid any confusion)
Today was a crisp autumn day. Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and best of all, the love of her life was sitting just a few feet away from her. Everything was perfect. Her soul mate grinned at her, then he opened his mouth and said-
"LLLUUUUCCCCCYYYYYYY!!!!!"
"ARRGHHH!!!" said blonde screeched, her fist clenching tightly as she sprang straight up from her seat. The pencil rolled off the table, completely forgotten.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" Lucy shrieked, glaring at Natsu with as much frustration as she could muster. The pinkette skidded to a halt, before flashing her his signature smile.
"Mira wanted me to come ask you about that novel you were working on."
"It's not a novel. Well, not yet. I'm just trying something new. I've decided to try writing a love story..."
Lucy's voice trailed off, her cheeks turning a bright red.
"BUT ANYWAYS. Tell her that I'm doing fine. With the novel."
"Will do!"
Natsu raced off and Lucy sat down at the table again. She pulled out a fresh pencil and resumed writing.
About halfway through her second page, she stopped, then reread everything that she had written on that page.
"W-why?" she whispered, staring up at him through tear filled eyes. "I-I don't understand. Why are you leaving me? Was it something I said? Was it something I did?"
He didn't answer. He just turned around and walked away.
"Come back! Please...." she whispered, sinking to the ground. For the longest time she just sat there on the ground, letting the tears run down her face and drip onto her skirt. She sniffed, wiped away the tears, then stood up. She made her way to the crosswalk, then, without thinking, stepped off the curb. A red Chevy barreled towards her, and at the last second-
AAARRRGHHHHH. Lucy scratched out the entire paragraph. SHE COULDN'T THINK. The words didn't seem right, like they were churned out by a robot. They felt very un-Lucy.
"I can't think." she announced to herself, then got up. She pulled on a coat, and slipped on her shoes. She needed inspiration. And what better place to gather inspiration from than Fairy Tail?
A couple minutes later, she was seated at the bar, with a hung-over Cana on her left, and a very depressed Juvia on her right.
"I-I don't know why G-Gray-sama hates meeee." Juvia blubbered.
"There, there." Lucy said, rubbing the bluenette's back comfortingly. "I'm sure Gray doesn't hate you. Maybe he's just tired."
"You mean he's tired of Juvia?" the bluenette sobbed .
"No! I meant to say that maybe he had a bad day."
"Maybe Juvia was the cause of Gray-sama's bad day!" Juvia exclaimed, before dissolving into a shaking, sobbing mess.
Lucy sighed, opting to just hand Juvia a tissue instead of making things worse. There wasn't a lot of inspiration here, especially for a romance novel. Mira wiped down the counter, and gazed sympathetically at the crying bluenette, then looked up at the blonde. "How's your story going, Lucy?"
Lucy sighed. "Not so well. I don't think I can WRITE anything at all right now."
"Ohh, it's writer's block, isn't it?"
"I'd prefer to call it a Satanic curse."
Mirajane chuckled softly. "I'm sure you'll get through it. Hey, I have an idea! You could ask Natsu for help on the novel!"
"NATSU?! No way. What does he know about love and heartbreak?"
"More than you know." Mirajane mumbled.
"Huh?"
"Oh, nothing! But you should really take my advice." Mira chirped.
"See you around, Mirajane."
"Bye!"
Lucy pushed open the doors, then let herself outside. The crisp autumn breeze sent a few leaves toward her, and she sighed. She started walking down the sidewalk, when a blur of pink suddenly barreled straight at her.
"Yikes!" Lucy shrieked, jumping out of the way.
The pink blur slowed to a stop, and unsurprisingly, it turned out to be Natsu.
"Hey, Lucy!"
"NATSUUUU!!! WERE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME OR SOMETHING?"
"Heh, sorry."
Lucy grumbled and complained for a bit more, until she finally ran out of breath. Natsu was still grinning at her, with that stupid, stupid grin still plastered on his face.
"Are you laughing at me?" Lucy huffed.
"N-no!" It's just that-," Natsu suddenly doubled over, fits of laughter wracking
his body.
Lucy pouted as she waited for Natsu to stop. Her expression was unamused.
"Y-you remind me so much of her..." Natsu's voice trailed off, his smile fading slightly.
For a moment, Lucy saw past his carefree smiles, and saw just a flicker of sadness beneath that shell.
"Remind you of who?" Lucy asked gently.
" Nothing." He murmured, untying his scarf.
"Here," Natsu draped his signature scarf around Lucy's neck "You look cold." He stated.
Lucy grinned, then wrapped the scarf tighter around her neck. "Thanks." She said softly.
The pair continued walking down the street, when Lucy finally broke the silence.
"Hey, Natsu....Just who do I remind you of?"
"Ahh, a just past flame."
Lucy remembered Mirajane's words, then said, "Well, I need a little bit of help for my novel, so maybe you could tell me more about her?"
"You wanna go to the park to talk?" Natsu asked.
Lucy saw the brief flash of pain in his eyes, and she nodded. "Of course."
I apologize if there's any OOCness, and please let me know what you think in the comments and all that jazz. Until next time!
