And she kept her promise.
She made sure Sam didn't feel insecure. Or stressed. She knew it was hard. But she also knew it was possible. And she was ready to help him in any way she could. She didn't tell any of her friends at first. She was waiting for Sam's approval.
But she always looked out for him.
At break time, they went together to wash hands. After washing it once she would take him by his hands and get out. They would eat together. Sometimes when she saw that he was looking at his hands and thinking of washing it again, she would just go ahead and feed him. Sam wouldn't let her do that too often.
"You make me look like a fucking baby",He complained.
"You are one sometimes", haley rolled her eyes.
She would even FaceTime her at home.
Specially at night. When he was about to sleep. She wanted to make sure that he wasn't checking his door for 30 minutes straight. He would check it once while she was watching through the phone. And then she would cut the call after he went to bed. They used to say goodnight together.Slowly but surely, he was getting better. He spent less time checking the locker because Haley was right beside her. She wouldn't leave him alone.
He would come to school at the right time as Haley would call him several times to make sure he started for school rather than checking the tap on the sink.
She would make sure his bag was zipped. And all his books were inside and he didn't leave any in the class. And whenever he started doubting himself again, Haley would say, " You checked it. So did I."
Those were the only words he needed to hear.
Also, Haley told his parents. His parents felt terribly guilty for not giving it that much importance at first.
His mom said, " I never realised he was in that much pain. How couldn't I see it ?"
Haley held her hand and told her, "Looks like your son is very good at hiding his pain front others."
Haley told them about how she suffered the same way years back. And gave her suggestions of what to do for Sam.
Sam's parents talked to a neurologist and psychiatrist. The same ones haley went to. The doctor gave him medicine . His family also started to notice him and his activities. And even though he would get offended for being observed all the time, he knew that they were doing it all for his good.
On some days, he would scream out saying,"Leave me fucking alone. You don't know what I'm going through." But then he would eventually calm down.
Haley even texted daily to make sure he was taking the medicines. Sam would even tease her saying, " Gosh! Am I so important to you ?You even remember the times for my meds?!"
The OCD, even after being the cruel devil it is, somehow brought them closer, without them even noticing.
Sam told the whole squad too. Each and every one of them was shocked at first. But they also understood.
Brooke: Sam, you never told us.
Sam : I know. And I'm sorry. I just couldn't. I thought you all would think I'm crazy and it's all in my mind. And I got insecure.Luke : Mate, we'd never do that.
Sam : Yeah. I guess I wasn't in the right state of mind. OCD got the best of me.Claire : So that's why you were late to school ? And you stayed back even after we left most of the days ? And why you went to the washroom that much ?
Sam : Pretty much.
Claire : Gosh! All of us except Haley are dumbasses. But we never thought it could be like this. Sorry, Sam. I'm just glad that Haley figured it out.
Sam : Yeah
Sam looked at Haley and shot a smile at her. Her eyes sparkled with happiness.
