Chapter One
~Teegan's POV~I look down at the crying girl sitting on my bed, my heart aching. "Vi.. it's okay, we're not letting you go back there. I promise, you're safe. We'll keep you safe." She shakes her head, sobs escaping her mouth. "Teegan, how? I can't just run away from my parents. I know they muck up, but they're my parents."
I huff, "no parent should ever treat their child as they treat you. This isn't right. Mum already called the police, you're not going back."
She stands up, hastily throwing her arms in the air. "Then where am I going to go? I have no relatives! None. What will happen? I get taken away and put into the system? No. I don't want that. They're only like this when they're drunk - he's only like this when he's drunk. And what am I going to do? Leave my mum alone to fend for herself? She's not a bad person, Tee. She's not. She's just scared of him and let's him get away with everything."
I look at her, really look at her. Her arms are covered with bruises from being aggressively grabbed. Her lip is busted and she has a bruise on my left jaw from her father smacking her. Her chest has a big bruise across it from being shoved, her temple has a small cut from when she fell trying to run away. She's beaten up, and her own bloody father did this to her.
A knock is heard, but before I could answer it, mum and Omar walk in with a deputy and a detective behind them.
Mum looks at Violet, tears trailing down her face. "That's her." She informs the fuzz.
The lady walks up towards us, "I'm Detective Wilson, I'm going to be handling your case, okay honey?" Vi timidly nods, looking at me worriedly. I sit besides her, my arm looping with hers in a soothing manner. "Can you tell me who did this to you?"
Violet looks down, ashamed. "My father."
Detective Wilson nods, "George Jade?" Violet nods.
"Will you be okay with coming to the station to give a statement?" The officer standing by the door asks. Violet shrugs, "what will happen to me? I don't want to get taken away. Where will I go? What will happen to them?" She throws questions, her voice breaking and her breathing accelerating.
I rub her arm, "mum said she can stay with us, right?" I look to my mum, she nods briskly. "Of course. We will do all we can to make sure she doesn't have to go anywhere. We have plenty of room and it'll make this a comfortable transition."
The detective smiles, "I'm sure we can work something out."
I nudge Vi, "hear that? It's going to be okay."
I cannot believe it's been a year since Violet had moved in with us. And now we're moving, and she's coming along. We're all going to have a fresh start.
I turn around and stare at my room. Bare. That's how it looks, my room that is. Just... bare. Well, with the exception of a few boxes here and there. I can't believe we are actually moving. I'm sort of excited, but extremely nervous at the same time. I mean, Holmes Chapel is the only place I have ever lived, so I think I have the right to be nervous. Moving three hours away doesn't really sound too bad, I suppose. Fresh start; new town, new school, new boys.
Boys. What fascinating creatures they are. Well, I guess I wouldn't know much considering I have never really had a boyfriend. I mean, I haven't ever needed one, my life is already chaotic without one. Then, there's Violet Jade - my best mate, my other half. Granted I only met her last year, but trust me, it feels like we have known each other for eternity.
