[PROLOGUE]

~*}{*~ ???'s POV ~*}{*~

"WE NEED HELP!" I heard him shout over the walkie-talkie. "SEND IN THE REINFORCEMENTS! NOW! PLEASE!"

I ran to the walkie-talkie and picked it up. My hands were shaking so hard, I nearly dropped it. "I'M HERE!" I yelled through my receiver.

"NO! PLEASE!" I heard shuffling sounds. Someone was struggling. There were explosions in the background. Screams.

"THANK GOD!" He sounded desperate. Exhausted. He sounded like he was running. "YOU HAVE TO SEND IN MORE TROOPS! WE'RE DYING OUT HERE!"

I felt tears well up in my eyes. People were starting to stare at me. "NO! NO, EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE-"

"NO! NO! PLEASE! AAAAAAHHHH!!" I heard him scream. His voice got softer, until all I could hear was the background noise.

"...Are you there...?" I whispered.

Silence.

A surge of anger flowed through me. "NO! NO, PLEASE! YOU HAVE TO BE THERE, YOU HAVE TO ANSWER ME!" I yelled. "EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE OKAY! PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME!"

I threw my head back and screamed, flinging the walkie-talkie down on the ground so hard, part of it chipped off.

I fell to my knees, my eyes squinted shut, tears running down my cheeks like miniature rivers, reaching up and clutching the sides of my head. I must've looked like I was trying to crush it.

"Everything... Everything's going to be okay..." I whispered the message he had never heard.

Then I realized what I had to do. I got up and turned to the group of people that had gathered around me.

"Send out the dragon." I growled menacingly. Tears were still rolling down my cheeks. "We are not losing this war."
