I awoke to the sun shining through the rotting curtains. Today was going to be eventful. I started my first job with Dr. Williams, we are taking care of a peculiar case. The patient was slowly deteriorating, he seemed to have little time left or that's what the doctor has told me. 'How can a person contract such a disease like that? I wonder if the boy came into contact with anyone that has been in the disease infested streets, though seems unlikely as he comes from riches.' Sighing, I left my bedroom with the bag I packed for when staying at the manor. The parents of the boy insisted that we stayed to take better care of the boy, or so we just did it for them. The doctor had already packed his case, along with having his bag of medical supplies with him. His attention turned to me as he cleared his throat before speaking. "You be good while we are there boy, don't need to be gettin trouble with the upper class." His accent coming through to show his tiredness, along with trying to be intimidating. I ignored the drunken bastard as I saw the horse and carriage pull up, the coachman waiting on us. I grabbed the bags, loading them into the storage compartment underneath as the lazy bastard got into the carriage. Walking around, I sat up front with the coach driver as I wanted nothing to do with the doctor. 'Still treating me like a child, even though I'm almost an adult.....idiotic doctor...' My eyes went to the scenery before us, starting to dread on how long this trip will actually take us. It was mostly wilderness and bodies everywhere.....the world has grown so grey when the plague hit, death all around us as we cannot escape it. 'It seems even the land has been affected by this illness.' I was fixated on the trees, as their branches are bare with fruit as well as leaves. 'Maybe is when plague actually brought the great death.....killing the land with us.....' I shook my head, trying to leave that train of thought. I soon felt tiredness take over me while looking at the dead earth. Closing my heavy lidded eyes to relax against the wooden carriage and let my mind drift for a bit. I stayed there for what seemed like forever until I felt the carriage come to a stop. Opening my eyes, I captured the beauty of the manor as it's hidden behind old willow and pine trees. The manor had an eerie feeling to it, as it's not been touched by the plague of death like in the city. The manor itself is huge, might be even able to hold a whole city within its walls. 'Seems to be really rich, I guess the bastard and I will be able to get better medical supplies after this.' I kept that in mind while jumping off the perch of the carriage, walking back to grab our luggage. "Come on, child." The doctor muttered while pulling off that damned mask, walking to the door as I followed behind him. He rapped his knuckles against the dark wooden oak door, waiting for an answer. A man opened the door, revealing the inside of the house. The man is dressed in an all black servant's uniform, most likely the head butler of the manor. "Welcome, Doctor Willams." The butler bowed while keeping the door open enough for us to walk in. The doctor nodded to the man. "Where is the man of the house, I must speak to him about his son's condition and check up on the boy." He got right down to business as the butler nodded, taking the bags out of my hands and had us follow him. "Right this way, sir." His voice dripping with sarcasm of happiness. My eyes looked around the pale white house, looking very boring and plain for a manor as large as this one. 'Maybe they are cheap bastards.' I then looked ahead to see the paintings of the master of the house along with his wife and child. As I was distracted with the artwork, I ran into the doctor's back as we stopped at a door. "The master is right in here." The Butler looked to us with a smile. Dr. Willams looked to me with an annoyed expression. "Go check on the boy, useless brat." He muttered under his breath as he walked into the room. Glaring at him throughout the process, I looked at the man in front of me. "Take me to the boy's room, please," I said politely, seeing the man nod and continued down the hall. I followed after him as it seemed to get darker towards the end of the hallway. He stopped at the last door on the left, opening the door for me. "The sun irritates his skin so, we tend to keep it dark in here. The only light we use is by candle in this room." The butler let me walk in first as I observed the room, then to the lump in the bed. I stared at the lump for a while, being memorized by it until the servant spoke up. The taller man walked towards the bed, pulling the covers back to reveal a small white hair boy that's covered in bandages. "My boy, it's time to wake up." He whispered softly as he then helped the boy sit up so I could get a better look. My eyes caught the bandages that are wrapped around his, then how small his body is as it's close to the bones. 'Poor boy, that must hurt like hell.' I pulled out a cloth from my pocket, tying it around my mouth and nose to protect myself from whatever he is carrying. Walking over to the boy, I checked him out with my bare eyes for now. 'Paler than usual, skin just a usual white, no yellowness to it.' Diseases started to run through my mind as I tried to figure out what this boy could have, though it was hard to pinpoint with just looking at him. "What's with the bandages?" I asked, looking to the butler. The boy did not seem to have actual wounds or scrapes. The butler spoke up while looking to me. "The young lord has become blind from the illness, he refuses to have anyone see his eyes while like this." He then carefully placed the boy against the pillows. I then looked to the boy, speaking to him. "What is your name, dear boy?" I asked softly as he tilted his head towards me. "Rune." He whispered with a gentle weakened voice. That's the day, I met the mysterious boy and became his bedside nurse.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
