Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I'm quite a busy person so I won't update immediately. And sometimes I get bored with a story after a while, but the more fans, comments, votes etc. I get the more likely I'll be inspired to keep writing. And remember criticism of all kinds is welcome.

Enjoy ♥

{Prologue}

Rain surges down upon us, soaking us to the bone and washing away the blood. I try to scream but no one can hear me over the roar of the storm. I blink away the rain from my eyes, my dark, hair sticking to my forehead.

I watch helplessly as Jack is pinned to the ground and slowly beaten to an inch of his life. The three cloaked men, sneer and chuckle as they send fatal blows to his head and ribs. I try to rise to my feet and help him, but another man grips my shoulders and forces me down painfully.

A small whimper of pain escapes my lips as he grabs a hand full of my hair and yanks it back, bringing my head up and forcing me to watch the horrific scene before me. Jack lies still, his head lolled to one side. Blood trickles down his nose and swollen lips before being washed away in the downpour.

I stare at him, paralysed fear and worry that he may be dead, hoping and praying that he'll groan or twitch. Time seems to freeze, my head growing painfully dizzy from not remembering to breath. A shallow cough escapes his broken lips and I'm overcome with relief. He's okay.

I need to draw the attention away from him, if they see he's still conscious they'll kill him for sure, "let me go!" I hiss struggling under my attackers grip, "You'll regret this!"

"I doubt that," snorts one of the men, coming closer to me. Anger bubbles up inside of me and I fling back my head, connecting it with my attackers stomach. I hear a groan and the grip on my shoulders loosens slightly.

Using this moment to my advantage I lunge forwards, sending my fist into one of the men's face. In a flash I tear Jack's knife from his belt and dart away, dodging a kick to my ribs. In an instant I spring towards the closest opponent and sink my knife into his stomach, watching as he drops the ground, choking on his own blood.

The other three approach me slowly, their eyes never leaving Jack's knife. Something catches my attention out of the corner of my eye and I turn just in time to see a gleaming sword puncture my side. A sharp pain erupts from the wound and I drop to the ground, clutching the bleeding mess while trying to slash at the man's legs with the knife.

"Did you really think we wouldn't have backup in a situation like this? We were actually quite surprised to only find the two of you," says one of the men.

"Who are you?" I spit, rage poisoning my words. One of them opens their mouth to speak but is cut off by a fist connecting with his face. My eyes dart to Jack, his soaking clothes clinging to his muscular body. How can a seventeen year old take so much damage and still be moving?

"Jack, run!" I yell, letting out a small cry of pain as one of the men kicks my side.

"Hey!" Jack growls, punching the man who kicked me, "Stay away from her!"

I try to rise to my feet, but become overwhelmed with the pain. Again I am forced to watch helplessly as Jack struggles to defend me, sending fierce and lethal blows to the men's heads, but also receiving just as many as he gives.

Again, I will my shaky legs to work, but they simply buckle under the pain. Tears stream down my face along with the rain and I begin to grow dizzy as more and more blood escapes my side.

I feel myself slipping away and force my eyes open. The sudden impact of my head hitting the ground causes another cry of pain to escape my lips and I struggle to keep my eyes open.

I'm not sure how much time has passed, it feels like only minutes, but for all I know it could be hours. I can no longer hear the sounds of fighting. I hope Jack's okay.

The distant sound of horses and men approaching reaches my ears and I sigh in relief. They'll see we need help and come get us. Maybe we'll be okay after all. Lifting my head slightly I search for him, but find only the empty forest.

He's probably gone off to find the riders, I tell myself, closing my eyes. Everything will be over soon and the pain will go away. I flinch at the cool touch of someone wiping my hair out of my face.

"Jack?" I croak.

"I'm here," he whispers, pain evident in his voice.

"Are you hurt?"

"I'll be fine just a few bruises. You need attention though, your wound is pretty bad. We'll find someone who can help you and I promise I'll come get you when you're better," says Jack.

I see a few small drops of blood escape a deadly looking cut on his head and trickle down his badly swollen jaw. He's such a bad liar. My eyes trail down to his ribs, where he had taken most of the hits. His hand clutches them tightly, and his breath is shaky and fast.

"Are you sure? And how will you find me?" I breath.

He chuckles and then grimaces, clutching his side tighter, " Don't be silly, I know your hurt but there's no need to ask stupid questions,"

I frown slightly, my head tipping to the side "What if you forget where I am?"

"I won't, I'll go there with you," he says. Everything begins to darken and I feel myself losing a grip on reality.

The last thing I hear before my senses fade out is, " I promise, I will always find you..."
