Just starting off... (Pokèmon Fanfic)

Chapter Seven

Why was he coming back?  Why the memories that I shoved in a corner to shrivel up and die?  Why the memories that hurt me the most?  Why now?  What does this mean?

Axle had gotten a room before we battled, so I decided to crash with him.  He didn't mind me, I don't think anyway.  Axle explained how his was going and he's been through a lot. He asks me what my journey has been, but I look down and away.

"That bad, huh," Axle asks.  I only nod to his question and he gets the picture.  "So you want to take on your fourth gym challenge?"

"Yes, only psychic isn't my strong suit," I say.

"You can win," he says.

"Thanks," I reply.

The next day we head out to Saffron to challenge the Psychic gym.  I was a little nervous because a lot of gym leaders have been taken as members of Team Rocket.  If I lose, I'll be forced to be one, depending on if they're Rockets or not.  We get there and I hesitate.  I look at the gym and know it's TR territory.  I walk in and straight to the leader.  The leader is Sabrina, a psychic who uses psychic type pokèmon.

"Sabrina, I challenge you to a battle," I yell across the room.

A little child appears and giggles. I know this scheme.

"Sabrina, I know that's not you," I yell.

A bigger girl whom the little girl was sitting on got up. "You saw through it. I'm impressed. Are you a psychic as well?"

"No, just someone who happens to see past deception," I say.

"Four pokèmon," She tells me.

"I hope to only use one," I mutter to myself.

I sent out Hitmonchan and she looks at me like I'm crazy.

I hear from above "Are you crazy?!"

Sabrina shrugs and throws out her pokèmon. A yellow pokèmon came out. It held a spoon in one of it's hands. It kind of looked like a ferret that walked on two legs. It was her Kadabra.

"Bulk Up," I say. Her pokèmon used Calm Mind. This went for a little bit, then I said, "use Agility." This went on for a bit while Hitmonchan dodged the attacks of Kadabra. Hitmonchan was fully maxed out in speed, defense, and attack. Time to start doing some damage.

"Use Sucker Punch," I said. Hitmonchan went over to Kadabra and punched him in the face. Kadabra fell back and it was out cold. Next was Mr.Mime. I attacked with Fire Punch, and it hit before it could generated any barriers or screens. That took him out.

Venomoth was next in the line up. I stuck it safe on this one. Hitmonchan used Fire Punch on it, which is game for that pokèmon.

Last is Alakazam. Don't underestimate this foe. It came out and used Psychic before I could react. My boxer pokèmon was slammed into the wall, the floor, the ceiling, and the other wall a couple times. It got up as if nothing hurts.

"Guess training helped," I say. "Use Sucker Punch."

It punched at Alakazam, but missed. Apparently, Alakazam is fast. Odd... No, I look into Alakazam's eyes and see that they have turned blue.  I look at Sabrina's eyes to see the same thing, which means that Sabrina is using her psychic abilities to control Alakazam.  This is bad.  I have to think of a way to get faster.

"Try using Agility. If we push, we might increase your base stat for speed," I say. Hitmonchan nodded and started to run faster and faster around Alakazam.  He eventually hit a height in speed.  "Push past."  He started to get faster and faster again until I said, "Use Sucker Punch." He jumped inward from the circle and uppercut Alakazam.  It flew back into the wall and, because of it's average to less than average defense, the battle was game set and match.
