I cracked open my eyes and rolled, wondering why I wasn't falling off my bed. Then I realized, I was on the cold, raw floor. I laughed out to nobody in particular as I stood up and reached for my phone. I casually turned it on and blinked in bewilderment at the number of messages and missed calls. One familiar name happened to stand out, Zenix. I wondered what he wanted so early in the morning.
I peered over my shoulder to get a good look at my clock realizing it was actually past noon. Damn, I overslept. I trudged over to my mirror and started brushing my straw like, cinnamon hair as I called Zenix back. He didn't pick up immediately, but as soon as I heard his crisp voice I responded.
"H- hello?" I almost whispered.
"Hi Maddie, uh, are you free today....like at all?" He said losing almost all of his confidence.
You had to think of your schedule: sleep, eat, watch anime, listen to k-pop, repeat. You giggled in your head.
"Huh, what....OH yeah yeah I'm totally free!" You said laughing into the phone.
"Okay...ppssshhh" You could hear Zenix's husky snickering on the other line.
"Could you meet me at the park as soon as you could?" Zenix said muffling his laughter.
"Yeee, see ya!" I said looking at my ragged self in the mirror, realizing how much work I would need to put into my appearance to go meet Zenix.
"Bye dude," Zenix said with a little giggle before he hung up.
I laughed, pulling my hair into a messy, but cute bun. I looked through my closet and pulled out some cargo pants and a tank top that went down to my belly button. It was a nice dull gray shirt with a blue rim at the top. I grabbed my purse and walked down my stairs. I decided to put on my trendy Adidas shoes, and walk out.
The park was near my house and it was unusually sunny and warm, with just the right amount of wind, so I decided to walk there. I took in all the trees, birds chirping, and each pebble on the sidewalk as I walked. Once I neared the park, I looked for Zenix's familiar fluffy mocha hair. After nearly scouring the park, I saw the mocha floof I was looking for sitting right underneath a pastel pink tree, head up against the hazel trunk.
I quietly shuffled over to the tree and crouched down, next to the tree.
"Boo!" I yelled startling Zenix.
He lost his posture and slouched down on the tree laughing. I started giggling too, but quickly stopped before my mellow giggle turned into a witch cackle. I sat down next to him. He turned to me and sprinkled pink leaves all over my hair.
"Hey bro I just washed that!" I said in a sarcastic tone.
"Guurl, yo hair so fine, you never need to wash it!" He said holding his stomach, laughing.
I started cackling when something strange caught my attention.
"Hey Zenix, look." I said pointing to a weird pair of people in costumes taking pictures.
"They have an awesome chicken though!" He stated.
"Which one?" I asked acknowledging the fact that there was a manly figure wearing a chicken suit, and a pet chicken on a sparkly rainbow leash.
We shifted our attention over to the eccentric couple. I squinted and looked closer. The odd girl in the male outfit and wig looked familiar. I peered past the girl's fake freckles and recognized her as my closest homie, Ava.
