"Sometimes, when you think, that life only throws you bricks, it gives a piece of light, that shines brighter than any sun."

I woke up alone, in his bed. And immediately, I was afraid. I quickly grabbed his shirt, and put it on, and walked to the kitchen, to look for him. And when I saw him cooking, only in his boxers, I couldn't help but smile.
"Goodmorning sunshine, did you sleep well?" He gently asked.
"Better than ever." I hugged him from behind. "I got scared, when you weren't there." I whispered, and kissed his back.
"You look amazing in my shirt by the way." He turned around, and gave me a gentle kiss on my lips. "I really hope, that you like pancakes."
"I love them."
"I need to get to work later, but I can drop you off at your place, if you want to."
"That would be perfect." I snatched a pancake. "Can I use your phone to call my sister?"
"Sure princess." he handed me his phone.
So I started to dial her number, and kissed him.
"Sup' D?"
"WHAT THE HELL MEL?!" she screamed. "Have you seen what time it is, it's to early for my taste."
"Yeah yeah, I just called, to let you know, that I'll be home soon." I laughed.
"Nice, you laugh, what did you to do?"
"Nothing, we'll talk later. Later D."
"Later."
I jumped on the kitchen table, and watched him clean up, after his cooking.
"When will I see you again?" I looked at him, with a small amount of sadness.
"Anytime you want, but it'll be hard to call you, besides calling your sisters phone." he was standing between my legs, with his arms around me. "But I'll do anything for you."
"I'll miss you, you know."
"I'll miss you more." he gave me an intense kiss. I didn't want this moment to end. "Go put on your clothes, so I can drive you home. I don't want your sister to kill me."
I went to the bedroom, to put on my clothes, and went back to the kitchen.
"Hey Justin, you won't mind if I steal your shirt would you?" My cheeks were burning.
"No of cause not." I couldn't help but smile. Now I could have something, that smelled like him, and reminded me of him.
"should we get going?" I asked, while giving him a hug.
"yeah I guess." he sounded so sad. And with that, we went to his truck. I really didn't want to leave, but I had to. When I heard to roar from the engine, I let a tear slip.
"we will be together again Princess." he put a hand on my thigh. "I promise."
"I really hope so."
The rest of the car ride was silent. But it wasn't awkward, it was peaceful. I smiled, more than I had been the last year. Maybe the first time I really smiled.

"Mel, finally, and you must be Justin." Dhalya came to his truck. "since Mel is a master in busting every phone, she'll have mine, I already got a new for myself." se chuckled. "Then she won't mope around the house."
"thank you, and nice to meet you." he shook her hand.
"aww, don't be so polite, you put a smile on her face." she gave him a bear hug. "I'll head inside." she quickly went inside.
"I'll miss you." I whispered. My voice were at a breaking point. "I'm sorry, I'm just scared, that I won't see you again." he stroke my cheek.
"you will, call me if  you need me." he kissed me passionately.
"I will." I returned his kiss. "see you handsome."
"see you princess." and with that, he got in his truck. He waved to me from I side. And I waved back.
I slowly walked inside, met by my sister, who were eager to hear details, from my night with Justin.
"now spill."
"jeez, chill, will ya." I grabbed the phone, and texted Justin.
"hey Justin, thanks for the night. I miss you already."
"hey princess, thank you too, and I miss you more." I smiled again.
"he is amazing D, and no, we didn't do anything else than talk, and maybe kissing a bit." I giggled.
"just take it slow, don't rush something potentially amazing." she hugged me. "though I'm happy, that you're smiling."
"he is such a gentleman already. He made me pancakes, and I borrowed his shirt from last night." I grabbed his shirt, and hugged it. "how can I be so lucky, to meet the man who saved me."
"because you deserve, someone who can be the best part of you."
"I'll head to my room, gotta send an email to Alicia."
"alright. Later Mel."
I went upstairs to my laptop, opened my email account, and to my worst nightmare, an email, from someone in prison, David.
"Melinda, when I find you, you won't be able to get help. You're dead for making me go to prison."
"Dhalya!" I broke down, crashing on the floor. When my sister entered my room, she saw me, and then looked at my laptop. She sat down in front of me.
"we need to take this to the police, now, you hear me." I nodded, and cried frantically. She grabbed the laptop, and we went to her car, only to see the the car tires cut. At this point I got scared, and looked around.
"Mel, call someone." I think, I was beginning to have a panic attack. She grabbed my phone, and called the police. After, she hugged me.
"it will be okay, Mel, it will be okay." she grabbed my phone, and called Justin.
"hey Justin, I'm calling to let you know, that Mel and I are waiting for the police, I'm sure everything is fine, but she's panicking pretty badly."
"thanks for calling, I'll meet you at the police station." they both hung up, and soon the police arrived.
"are you Dhalya and Melinda Parker?" the officer asked. We both nodded. "alright ladies, let's take you two to the station, so we can talk." we got into the police car. It didn't take long, before we were at the station. The officer took us to an interrogation room.
"So where do we start?" he asked.
"I just got home, after I've been at a friend's house, then D and I shortly talked, and I decided on emailing my psychiatrist about setting up our next meeting. When I opened my email account, I saw an email from an unknown account."
"what did the email say?"
"let me show you instead." my sister opened my laptop, and found the email. After a short while, the officer looked at us.
"what happened next?" I couldn't get myself to talk, so my sister began to tell. Every sound were a little blurred, and I was shaking.
"we'll get to the bottom of this, and I can assure you, that David is still in prison, he's in isolation, cause' of violence. I was there an hour before I picked you guys up." he quickly went out of the room, and when he returned, he gave a smile. "and he is still there, the sherif just called the prison, to hear if David was still there." I began to breathe better after that.
"you two ladies should find somewhere to stay, until we get to the bottom of this."
"we will, thank you officer." we shook hands, and when I got outside the room, I was met by some brown eyes, and I ran towards Justin, practically threw myself in his arms.
"you're safe now princess." he hugged me tightly.
"my sister and I need to find a place to stay, until they find out, who's behind this."
"you could stay at Justin's, and I could stay at Trey's." Trey is her boyfriend through 6 years. He's a perfect man for my sister.
"I'm good with that, what do you think Mel?"
"what about your work?"
"I can work from home."
"then it's settled." she gave me a hug. "Mel, we can still meet up."
"We still need to pack some stuff, we don't know for how long, we'll be away from our house."
"I know Mel." She looked af Justin. "Could you drive us to our house, so we can pack?"
"Yeah sure, and if you want, I could drop you off, at your boyfriend's place." Justin said kindly.
"Really? that would be amazing, thank you."
"Well lets go ladies." He chuckled, and had a huge grin on his face. I couldn't help but wonder, how life would have been, if I never were in that forest that night last year.
Both Dhalya and I sat in the back of Justin's truck.
"Hey D, what do ya think of doing? I mean after all of this."
"I don't really know, but all I know, I seriously need to learn how live life the fullest." she chuckled. "what about you sis?" I secretly looked at Justin, and got a warm feeling inside.
"I don't really know yet, probably getting my own animal clinic, just like I've dreamed of, since we were kids." I saw a smile emerge from Justin's lips.
"Well, you did finish your degree, so all you need is an approval from the mayor, and a place to start up."
"I know a place." D and I looked towards Justin. "it's a small place right outside of town."
"it could be a perfect opportunity Mel." I sighed, once Dhalya said it.
"I don't wanna talk about it!" I couldn't help, but feel a bit guilty. I kept my dream at a distance, because I was scared.
"Sis, I didn't mean to intrude."
"Well stop trying to push me! I can't do it okay!"
The rest of the car ride was filled with silence and tension. Justin didn't know what to say, I was annoyed with my sister, and my sister was too stubborn. Maybe I was too.
When we arrived at our house, both my sister and I went inside, to pack what we needed. While I walked around the house, I took a deep breath, and thought about all the memories in this house. We were once a typical family here, our parents were here. I remembered how my sister and I used to play with our dolls, while dad were helping mom with everything. I miss them, more than anyone could ever imagine. But then I remembered the day the sherif came to the house. My sister had just turned 18, and I was only 7. Mom and dad hadn't returned from the grocery store. I remembered how sad the sherif looked, almost like he was crying. He looked at me, and I asked him where mom and dad were. He kneeled down, put a hand on my shoulder. "where is your sister?" and then my sister came down from a her room, and she broke down. She realized what had happened. I didn't understand at the time, but she did. That was the day, that D and I had to survive together.
I fell down on my knees, and cried. Just like the moment, when D told me, that mom and dad wouldn't come home.
"Oh sis." she sat down beside me, clutching her arms around me. "We need to be strong."
"but how?" I cried, more than ever.
"we'll get through this, somehow. But right now, we have to get going." I nodded, and forced myself to get up, and breathe.
We got back to the truck, where Justin were waiting for us.
"where to Dhalya?"
"next town. Trey will be waiting for me, at the cinema, where he's working."
Justin nodded, and started the engine. While we were driving, I still held onto my mother's necklace, that I've picked up in mom and dad's old bedroom. I closed my eyes, to picture her in my mind. Her blond hair, and emerald green eyes. I've always been mom's little girl. While Dhalya was daddy's girl. But we were the perfect and typical family.
"we're here." Justin's crispy warm voice sounded. I must have drifted off, because this trip usually takes up to 40 minutes.
"hey Mel, it'll be alright." I got out off the truck, to hug my sister. "and Justin, take care of her, will ya?"
"I'll do everything I can. Take care." D nodded, and hugged me pretty tight.
"see ya sis." we gave each other a smile, and then she went inside the cinema, and I got in the front seat in the truck, right at his side. I leaned against the window, not saying a word. I was too afraid to cry more.
"If you need me to listen, I'm ready for it." while looking out the window, I put a hand in his.
"thank you." I whispered, with a voice so fragile. I was looking forward to be back in his cabin, where I could feel safe.
