It was an oddly serene and silent night. The crickets did not chirp, and the wolves did not howl. Lillieanna and Damian woke up to this silence, as they weren't used to it. They couldn't get back to sleep, no matter how hard they tried, so they decided to walk around in the forest to see why it was so silent.
It was amazing how dumb that was, for the silence was because of fear of being killed. All of the animals, even the predators, were scared of being hunted. At night, they would always be in their caves, hiding.
Damian and lillieanna did not think of this until they were in the heart of the warm, familiar forest, but this time, it was dark, cold, and eerie. They've been in that forest at night before, and it was filled to the brim with life.
"This was a bad idea, we should go back." Damian said quietly. Lillieanna agreed, as they started strolling back. An arrow from an unknown place missed Lillieanna's head by millimeters. They broke into a run, not wanting to get seriously injured, or even die. Just to think that if the arrow was shot 5 centimeters to the right, Lillieanna would be lying dead in the forest.
They got back to the village wondering if everyone was alright. They found everyone happily sleeping, alive, in their comfortable beds. They walked to their little house, and opened the door, asking themselves if the maid was alright.
She was found dead, blocking the door. She was bleeding out of her neck and wrists, eyes closed, mouth hanging open in a scream, but with no sound from her mouth.
Damian and Lillieanna looked around the house, looking for any other evidence of who murdered her. Or if she killed herself. They knew she was depressed, but not quite suicidal. They shivered at the the thought that the maid actually might have killed herself, hoping that she didn't.
Next to her was a bloody knife. Her belongings weren't in the house, and they knew something was terribly, terribly wrong.
But it couldn't be, they secured the house as much as possible. They had steel endorsements put in the door, and the windows could withstand explosions from four feet away. It was impossible.
