Tobias

Chapter 9

*a few days later

I wake up, Tris sleeping in my arms. I glide my a fingers gently through her, slick, silky, blonde hair. She mumbles,"Tobias, I love you..." and I smile. She talks in her sleep, how cute.

She finally wakes up, and I'm still smiling. "Tobias, why are you smiling?" I laugh. "You talk in you sleep." She blushes, which makes me laugh even harder. "All you said is you loved me." She looks relived, like she could have said worse.

The wedding is tomorrow, so we got out of training initiates for a couple days. I kiss her, and say,"I can't believe we're married tomorrow!" Squealing, Tris exclaims,"I know! I'm so happy I could just-" Tris starts to cry, baffling me.

"Are you okay?" She nods, still sniffling. "It's alright, I know this is stressful for you." Still crying, Tris crawls into my arms. I brush her hair with my hands, and lightly kiss her neck. We lie in silence, and I try to say words, but nothing comes out.

Tris finally says,"I'm hungry, do you want to go eat?" I nod, getting out of bed. I put on some casual Dauntless clothing, and so does Tris. I lace my fingers through hers, and we run down to the dining hall.

I get some cereal, because cake isn't served in the morning. Sad, I know. Tris gets pancakes, eggs, a salad, and French toast. I look at her strangely, but she just laughs. Tris normally eats a lot, but this is still more than usual. Still looking at her, she just shrugs. "I just feel more hungry than normal, Tobias. Is that a problem?" I shrug. She normally eats a lot when she's stressed, so this really isn't a problem.

We finish eating, and I tell Tris I have a surprise. I put my hand over her eyes, and start running, careful not to run her into anything.

I run up the to a tall, thin building, and climb the stairs. Every step I take, I feel more nervous, wondering if I should do this.

We get to the top, and her mouth drops. She smiles ecstatically, a smile that I would do anything for. "You would zip line for me, even though you're afraid of heights?" My face flits into a grin. "I thought you'd like my pre-wedding gift." She smiles, her teeth gleaming in the sunlight, her hair blowing in the wind. I stare into her gorgeous, blue eyes, which are now sparkling with joy.

We get into the harness, and she holds me, in a comforting way, and says,"It's okay Tobias, I'm here. Just breathe." That's when I noticed I'm panicking, breathing heavily. I nod, and she pulls the lever, shooting us into the air. I scream at the top of my lungs, and Tris laughs at me. She looks beautiful, her hair flowing in the wind. She holds onto me, making me feel safe from danger, from life, and disappointment. This moment is ours, and when I look at her smiling, I never want this to end.

All I feel is my heartbeat, pounding twice as fast as it normally does. The wind is rushing through my hair, and I realize why Tris loves this. It makes her feel free.

We speed through the sky, and I feel terrified. I try to look at her, and not down. Her arms are sticking out, as if she was a bird. I do it too, and feel like I'm gliding through the air, as if I could escape anything.

She yells something, but the wind is crashing at us loudly, and I can't hear her. "Tobias, pull the lever!" Looking up, I grasp it, pulling as hard as I can. We skid to a stop, and I get out of the harness, loosing my balance, and fall. I land on my palms, and I feel the impact surge through my body.

Once I stand up, relief floods through me. Tris starts to laugh, and I join in with her, happiness rushing into me, thinking how much I love Tris. "It wasn't so bad was it?" I laugh, and say,"It wasn't bad, it was terrifying. But you calmed me, and I finally felt free from everything, like you and me were the only ones in existence." Her eyes are filled with joy. "That's how I felt. Tobias, I love you." She kisses me, but stumbles, and falls into my arms,"Tris, are you okay?" Nodding, she replies,"Yeah, I just feel a little dizzy." Stumbling again, I know something's wrong. Lying in my arms, I can tell she's feeling weak. "Tris, we need to get you upstairs. I can't let you fall and get hurt." I pick her up, and start to carry her towards the compound.

"Tobias, I can walk." "Tris, I know you can, but I don't want you to fall. I love you, and if you got hurt again, I couldn't live with myself."

We finally get to our room, and I lay her down on the bed. "Are you okay?" I ask, but I know the answer when she clenches her fingers to the bed, as if she was trying to make the room stop spinning.

Suddenly, she runs to the bathroom and pukes. "Tris, just lay down and try to sleep." She lies down, and closes her eyes. When she's asleep, it hits me. The wedding tomorrow, and Tris is sick.
